I was in Bishups Point...launched there..Most of the fish came off the  outside bank..mostly throwing toward the bank and working out...water drops off deep very fast...I was using a 100 series bandit but the 200 may work better...

Fished the inside bank some but tends to be more shallow...could be good for early morning topwater bite though..

Even caught one small cat on the Bandit.. lo

Yep...should have had my vest on...had laid it back behind my console seat and was just going to move..not really on plane..just a short piece..guess there was enough wind to blow it out....Looked for it later when realized it was gone but guess someone picked it up..fortunately I did have a spare in the boat..poot.. :)  I wasn't checked but did see the game offcial pulling into the area when I was leaving..

What do you mean by the "inside" or "outside" bank?  Not familiar with those terms...
thanks

Well..where I was fishing it is the side with the boat launch.. :)

This is an old oxbow off the river...in this case it is the side with the longest bankline and land behind it...the inside bank mainly just looks like an island......when this area..as most oxbows...was still part of the main river flow, it is the bank that the river current cut against the most..

Kinda like a large U..

Not sure how else to explain it..

Hi RattlinScottie I seem to be running into you more and more, must be a sing that its time to join up with TCTC ;)

Well Scottie may have gooten to the water 1st but I think I my have hooked a few more fish.  10 to be exact with one a short fish, rest should have weighed.  The biggest was 17.25 off a worm.  Got bit on the inside bank in the same cove working a horny toad and a 100 mistake bandit.  Worked around the whole island and hooked into 5.  Ran to another oxbow and worked all new water with nothing to show for it and by noon headed north.  Found a little cut and worked soft plastics the rest of the day.  Picked up 5 more all on worms.  I fished from 7am til 8pm with 10 total.  Nothing great just a lot of work and everything by noon was caught deep, 16 foot or better.  Water started out at a nice 86 and I finished up it was 94 and some change.

Not much red to the river today, looked more like green tea.  A nice breeze every now and then felt nice & most every place I went I had the water to my self.  Not complaining Scottie, was nice to visit with you again.

Fogy

Hawgwild

Hey Fogy..guess I should have been a little more patient.. :)  Picked up a cat after I saw you then that was it cept for a couple of bream bites...Headed in early around 11:30...

You sure did put in a day at it.. :) Not too many better ways to enjoy a pieceful day...I get to going sometimes and before I know it the sun is trying to set... :)  Didn't know a day could be that short..

See you again....Gonna head for Grand Bayou tomorrow.....last week off so making the most of it... :)

Yes Sir, I know what you mean.  I have to go back to work in the morning.  :'(  SO I fished my last day away & 10 fish for me of the river was fantastic!

Going to have to take some time and look over some more of the Red, 20 min away 5 years in the making and its starting to grow on me a little.  lo

the hillbilly

Well we took 1st place on the Ducks Unlimited Bass Tournament down in Pineville, LA over the weekend.  I just wanted to thank Rattlin Scottie for the info he gave me on what they were biting on as we had never fished the Red before.  We weighed in at 12lbs 4 ozs to win.  I also won big bass (3lbs. 3 ozs).  We caught them up around the Boyce bridge area on the rock jetties.  We caught them on flukes and shad crankbaits (bandit 200 series).  Thanks again and I'm looking forward to fishing the Red more often.
To catch fish you have to think like a fish....
To think like a fish you have to drink like a fish..

Hawgwild

Well Congrats Hillbilly on the win... ~c~

The Red can be an awesome place to fish...You generally can find a bite somewhere...I really had some of my best trips through the winter months..

See you out there..

So i actaully stopped RUNNING and started fishing.  I tend to have issues fishing big water.  I cant let up on the trolling motor.

Today I stopped running at 1000 and started fishing, put 2 in the boat in 15 min, total was about 3 pounds.
I woulda made scottie proud,  biggest came on a LA shad rattletrap.. well BPS version, which I like a lot better.

Hawgwild

Sounds like some nice fish... ~c~

Can't beat those rattletraps... :) I also had some good luck on the Red in late summer throught the winter months on a blue streak color trap..went to the 1/2 oz size then cause the shad were bigger also.. ;)

Scottie

b1jeremy

sure gets quiet on here before a tourny ~shhh....lol  lo

Hawgwild

Hey Jeremy...think most were at the Cross tourny tonight...They will probably be along soon.. :)

Scottie

b1jeremy

i bet we may only get 1 or 2 words out of some people before the tourny sunday...lol lo ...i know i have been a couple of times and i have caugt a few knotheads...did have 1 that was 13 inches but aroung 1lb 14oz or so...slap full of shad id imagine...we will see...i know that the results from the tourny will be on here...kinda interested to see just how everyone fares...Jeremy

J10B

if you are skunk in the tourny, the red shad worm at the edge of grass has produced 1-2 pounds everyday. Not consistent fish, but it will get at least ONE in the boat when Im having a tough day.

BassNinja

Is there a tourny out of Clark's tomorrow (Sunday)?

The only tourney Im aware of is the Twin Cities Team Club Tourney.

skeeter_bite

Good for you...I was on the Red this morning from daylight and only managed 1 dink!  Saw some school action, but couldn't get but one to hit...tried  pop-r, crankbaits, shad colored fluke, and worm, but they didn't like anything I offered.  Had two blow up on ribbit early on.  Saw lots of baitfish, and some bass activity, but couldn't get a bite going.  Left around 12:30.

Thanks for the reports and tips! Might have to remember them tomorrow :)! Couldn't see hitting the Red today so I went to BB Benton for a little while.

Red Ranger

Fished the RR with son yesterday in a small tournament.  It was a tough bite, but we managed two fish for 6.69 which was good enough to win.  This time of year, with the heat, it doesn't take much weight.

Water was warm 86 to low 90's - not to mention the air temp.  We caught our fish on plastics in 9'-11' of water.  Red shad baby brush hog and watermelon red worm.  We missed some fish as they didn't seem to be hitting it very hard.  Caught fish before 9.  We did some running later in the day to rocks, cuts, etc. to try to find some smaller fish to finish out our limit, but could find no takers.  They seemed to shut down after 9 when the heat set in.

Hawgwild

~c~ Congrats on the win Red Ranger.. ~c~

The bite wasn't any better today either...except for the bream... ;D

Scottie

Bassman

Fished the LA Basshunters open fruitjar yesterday out of Clark's.  It was a warm day but the bite was consistant.  It did slow down a bit with the sun overhead.  All of my fish came off a 10.5" ol' monster candy bug color in 7 feet of water.  I weighed a 5 fish limit of 8.89 with my last fish coming in the boat at 1:36.  It was good for 8th place and my entry fee back.  I was getting solid bites throughout the day but could not get hookups. (short strikes) 4 of the hooksets came back with half of a worm.

Hey Red Ranger, judging from the reports from the fruit jar tournament, we picked the wrong day for our tournament! ~xyz
