anyone have a link to the rules?  I'd like to review them in the AC comfort of my home instead of standing at a counter.
Any HP or boat restrictions?

Hawgwild

I check both sponsor sites listed in the paper and don't see a link to the tourny..

The paper said the registration forms would be available after Junl 28 so maybe the onlince site want be up till then either....

BTW: Your name goes in for a $1000 drawing for early registration before Oct. 1.

Ok  been trying to put this up for two days.  LOL  weather yesterday and dang computer keeps crashing today.  But here it goes again.

I do not like fishing the river.  I have fished it maybe 10 or 12 times tops since I moved here in 1998.  That includes cat fishing trips and tournaments.  I just could not find any bass.  The 1st one I hooked into was about 5 or 6 inches long and tried to eat a Storm crankbait about 5 or 6 inches long.  LOL  that was it until earlier this year.  Mike Noble & I pulled in on one of his spots and I hung a nice 3lb bass on like my 3rd or 4th cast of the day.  I figured that Yeah it's on today.  LOL  yep the butt wooping was on, on us.  That was the only weigh fishing for us.

I prefished Tuesday from 6 to 10 and nothing but a few brim bites.

Then fished yesterday and tried all new spots and hung two weigh fish off the 1st spot and one short fish.  Moved on to a few other locations and ended up yesterday with 8 short fish and 12 keepers.  Biggest went 16.5 and had 2 just over 15 and the rest were 13 to 14 inches long.

Water was hot, 95 to 98.7  stained but hey its the red.  :)  Weather was hot, hot, hot.  When I got back to my truck the temp gauge said 108.  Not its a black truck and was sitting in the sun, but well my carpet is dark and I was standing in the sun all day.  LOL

Baits, bandit 100, and soft plastics.  Worms, brushhogs and horney toads.  I may have to make a trip back to the red.   ;D

Fogy, what pool are you fishing in? Shoot me a PM and I'll give you some info.

I'll take some of that info too Rattle >:D! I'm pretty sure it was pool 5.

Ron Fogelson

Yep pool 5, tried kneeknock and Caspiano area "however you spell them" Up in Caspiano water was the hotest I saw all over the river at 98.7 if anyone hooks a fish out of that area you can just eat it, cause it would all ready cooked.  :shocking:

I had a great day, and kinda look forward to learning it a bit better.

Rattle you cam pm me anytime, you do anyway giving me heck so might as well send something useful for a change.  :roll2:

skeeter_bite

With the water temps so high,  I was curious as to the depth of water you were fishing?  and were the fish near the bottom or suspended?  I tried to catch some deeper fish on the river, but haven't had any luck.  Thanks for the post

Skeeter I was sitting in 16 to 24 foot of water dragging the bottom TX rigged.  They didn't want a C-rig but liked the TX rig.  I thought I was on a good pattern, but after I got home yesterday a storm came in and about blew the house over  I think that most anyone fishing late yesterday afternoon would have got bit.  I think they were just feeding up with the change in the weather.

Chris

Fogy , awesome job finding fish out there. ~c~ I guess Im going to give it a shot or three before our club tourney. Thanks for the report.

Ron Fogelson

Thanks Chris  I lost 5 or 6 as well.  Two were do to me not doing a good hook set.  LOL  got the weight and worm back to the boat to see that the hook never went through the plastic.   :shocking:

Dang fish wanted it so bad they just clamped down on the weight and wouldn't let go.  LOL  funnest one was about 12 or 13 inches.  I set the hook and felt the line go heavy like all I had on it was grass.  reeled up the slack and saw the line move off and set the hook again and I pulled that little bugger clear out of the water by about two feet.  He shook his/her head and let go of the weight.  When I went to look at the worm I saw everything was just like I had it.  After that I went and TX-posed the hook.  Had some more hang-ups but never lost another fish.

im trying a new approach and lure this weekend... if FEDEX doesnt drop the ball AGAIN.  I'll let you all know the lure and the details if it works... Dont want ya running out to special order a lure that doesnt work.

Ron Fogelson

What did you do order explosives?   ;D

Hawgwild

Well...Went to the Red Thrusday afternoon and was gonna fish the afternoon tourny there...then found out it is $40 per person, not boat....could have fished but don't like that situation....one catches fish and the other doesn't..then folks kinda say like sure...right... ~shade

Really think they area loosing some anglers by not allowing to fish as teams...they sure lost $40 bucks purse money yesterday as we would have fished as a team..

Anyway..we didn't fish the tourny and just went fishing...hit a few new spots..for me anyway...caught 7 total fish...5 keepers and 2 dinks...biggest was just over 15"..all either on the Khaki 100 and 200 series Bandit and red shad dead ringer worms...

We did check the weights on the tourny..Winner had around 9.5 lbs. and went on down..4th had around 4.5 lbs of fish...my pard probably had at least 4th had we fished the tourny.. ;D

Fished from 0600-0900 and boated 1 13'' fish. I would give a full size brush hog (black/blue) a try if want to boat some fish out there.
Take a kid fishing, the smiles are priceless!!!

thats a sore subject right now fogy :D  ~roflmao
Naw Just a new Idea that i came up with, dont want to look too stupid until it works or doesnt.

Ron Fogelson

J10B don't feel bad brother.  I never liked the river, it has been very very hard on me.  :'(

I did well Wedsday but Tuesday the best bite I got is photographed below.

Nothing like feeling a bite & setting the hook only to have a copperhead come flying back to the boat!  :shocking:  That dude wouldn't let go, he kept trying to eat the Brushhog even when I held him out of the water.  I got him off with a couple smacks with the rod tip, and poisin was running all down the plastic.  Pulled it off with my leathermen, so not to get any in/on me.  Like I said the river has been hard on me  :'(

Mr. bigmouth

hahaha fogy, i was just nudging the exoplisives comments :D

Ron Fogelson

Tough,  I need a 45 with rat shot to keep in my boat.  I have hooked 7 or 8 snakes while fishing, never any fun getting them to let go.

Oh that was the 1st one on the river.  The rest came on Cypress with one on Cross even had two eat a shiner while cat fishing.  Just ask Mitch, we cut its head off when we couldn't get the hook out of its mouth.  ~xyz

I went to the Red today got there around 0550, launched the boat at 0610 headed out fished the main River from clarks to the port without a bite? was back at the launch at 0950. so congrats to those that can find and catch fish on the red cause i cant? cypress here i come..

We hit the river Saturday from 0830-1500. Water temps were 87-90, winds out of the north 7-12mph. We caught 3 or 4 and I missed 2 nice fish (not thinking properly) and caught a glimpse of Nitro's (13lber at BPS) little brother in some new to us water. Everything came on plastic. We also tried spinners and cranks with no luck.

Hawgwild

Hit the Red this morning...got there early..guess on the water about 0520...Used a buzzbait for a bit and missed hookup on one..

When it got a little lighter the fun began...Started catching fish on Pop-R and Khaki bandits..

Got 8 fish in the boat, lost several during the fight, and just failed to get a good hook-set on some others.....The fish seemed to be hitting the crank really light and I sometimes thought I was just snagging moss or something... >:(

5 of the 8 were keepers with largest at 14"..

Then when the sun hit the water that was it...only got a few more hits on plastics and believe most of them were bream...off the water about 11:30..

And had my life jacket blow out of the boat...somewhere..

And saw one of our UB friends checking out some new areas like me.. :)

Thanks for the update guys, hopeing to get out there soon. Any hints on depth? Main river or oxbows?

Scottie if you were wearing the life jacket it probably wouldn't have blown out of the boat ;)
