Behind the Scenes Hatchery Tour – September 18

The Sandwich fish hatchery annually produces about 75,000 trout that are stocked into Massachusetts water bodies. The Sandwich facility is the oldest of MassWildlife's five fish hatcheries. Join MassWildlife on September 18 from 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. for a self-guided tour of the rearing facilities and raceways and see Brook, Rainbow, Brown, and Tiger Trout in different stages of growth. The "Hatch House" and other areas usually closed to the public will be open during this time. Visitors can view a display of hatchery-related historical artifacts along with information on the current MassWildlife hatchery operations. MassWildlife staff will be on hand to talk about the facility and to answer questions. The hatchery is located at 164 Rte 6A in Sandwich

If you can't make it to the Sandwich open house, consider attending the free talk entitled MassWildlife Hatchery History on September 22 at MassWildlife Field Headquarters in Westborough (1 Rabbit Hill Road, Westborough, MA 01581). Join Ken Simmons, MassWildlife's Chief of Hatcheries, for a fascinating look at the history of the agency's longest-running program. Also view historical photos and other artifacts from the hatchery and stocking program. The talk begins at 7:00 P.M. and is free and open to the public.
