Chris, Thanks for the directions. It's been 2 years since I got down there and was a little fuzzy on the route. Hopefully my boat will be out of the shop in time to go this weekend. Where can you buy the small crawfish at. The last time me and Fogy went we used the pre-cooked tails from wal-mart. They bit them good but the small live ones did work better. Any info on the bait would be helpful.

Thanks,
Mitch

Youre welcome.......Never thought about the crawfish tails from the grocery store. I have bought two pounds of the big live crawfish from Shanes and cut them up .We caught fewer fish but they were huge. My brother in law catches our crawfish on hwy 1. Look for spots that are shallow (like a couple inches to 10 inches deep) with grass. These crawfish are 1-2 inches. The whites are fun to catch but Im fixing to concentrate on the blackies. Good luck

Hey Chris I just clicked on your photo gallery and there is nothing in there. Be sure to take a camera with you this spring and get us some pics of your good fish to look at  :-*

Hey I am looking forward to that, and then we can use the digital camera and I can email the pics to you to put in your gallery.  :-*

Went to the Sabine today. The water is up about a foot and its very muddy. We got a couple of bites but thats it.  There were two boats out on the entire river two out of three launches were totally empty. I would recommend not going for several days
.

Dang it! I knew that would happen...I finally make plans to go & the weather messes up the fishing!  :'(

Mike Cork

I would think you might have a shot on Sunday. That will be two full days and nights from now. But it does take a long time for the rivers to settle down.

I just noticed that everytime I come to this post, the graph is up to date with the most recent time it was updated.

You can get some craw fish @ Sportsmens Dept on the way to Caddo on the right side of the road.  You have to go past the split in the road, HWY 71 & HWY 1 stay on 1 go past McDonalds & its like 1/2 to 3/4 miles.  Or you can try Bacon's out on Flournoy Lucas just off of Bert Kouns, this onw is on the left side of the road.  Or just get some more tails & some craw-fish spray.  I was getting all my big ones on shinners & you can get them at the TX launch.

I'm going in the morning, will let you all know what I find!

Im sure the fishing is on fire right now! You ought to try em out this weekend if possible.

Unfortunately, I don't think I 'll have time this weekend. I have to work Saturday til 1pm. By time I load up & drive down there, it'll be too late.

Sunday I need to go prefish Bisteneau. At least try to find my way around out there a little.

Chris

For those of you interested in the white bass ....

I took my father in law and my three year old to the Sabine today for a couple of hours ... It was kinda tough in my normal spots. Not used to the few numbers we got today but we caught some huge fish. We caught 31 fish total and a third of em were 2.6 or better (thats a big white). My three year old caught his first fish today (with absolutely no help) a 2.6 lb hoss and even dragged it up in the boat by himself. You would have thought he had a blue marlin with all of the grunting he was doing. If you have kids , YOU GOTTA TAKE THEM! All fish were caught on live crawfish about 13 feet deep, water was muddy and 55 degrees .

The numbers were down also at the Lock and Dam.  Dont know what the deal is?

chris that's fantastic, my boys wait all year to go to Sabin cause they fish with me most year with little to no luck getting a large mouth to bite but when the whites are on it more then makes up for the lack of catching the rest of the year.   ;D

Chris

Fogy

I was going to prefish Bistineau again Sunday with Brent but my three year old wasnt going to let that happen .. He cried like crazy when I left without him Saturday to prefish, just couldnt do it to him two days in a row so I took him and his grandfather to the Sabine. That place is the reason my kids are hooked on fishing. Gotta love a place where you can sit back and catch 2 and 3 pounders all day.

I went with a buddy of mine today. We had a great time. He has been off all week and really put me on the fish. I wish I could catch regular bass the way the caught the whites today. we sat in one spot and used several hundred crawfish and caught them one after another. I don't care if I go again but I need to take my dad and my little girl.

I knew it had to be on fire..... It was just starting to clear up on Sunday when I went . Ive got some folks from Texas to take out there next week who have never been and they are going to have a blast.

Guys I am not much into live bait, could a man do well with artificals like small jigs and spoons?

danisfish, I'm taking a buddy down there friday to show him what its like. Any tips on where to start. Water depth, main channel, oxbows, ....anything. Its been 2 years since i was there. I really would like to catch a limit before the runs over. Thanks for the help.

Mike, after you find them you can get them to hit spoons or white perch jigs. If you find the big ones, they will hit a rinky dink or any tail kicker kind of bait. But if you want to just get one bite after another use live bait.

Mitchell, don't know if you will see this before your trip on friday, but the river is down a bunch. The deeper points are holding the fish , in just about every turn you will see boats just sitting there. The fish we caught and the ones we saw being caught were all in about eight to ten feet of water. I would be happy to tell you right where we caught our fish but you need a tx lic and I don't know if you have one so I hate to type the whole deal out if you are not going to make the run up there. IF you get this tonight, email me and I will tell you the spot. Daniel Green.
