Fogy  ,It was still a little on the muddy side as of Tuesday ,but I know someone who is catching them (20 to 30 a day up to three pounds))- the fish arent stacked up in any certain areas at this point. Its catch a few here and catch a few there ......Working as many sandbar points as you can seems to be the ticket right now from what Ive been told. Im going to check on them next week in all of my spots and if those dont work Im going to look at some new areas farther north up into Texas .Should be clear enough by Wednesday to try .I will let you know how it goes if I do go.

Thanks Chris, I might make a run this weekend & see how they are doing.  A few years ago when I went this early I had better luck with crawfish so gonna try that this time.

I just got an e-mail from Greg Crafts Toledo Bend Guide Service. He says the the whites are running now...BIGTIME!

Chris

The river is up and the whites have been in the backwaters (creeks) and some in the mouths of the sloughs. There are some big fish being caught (some 3.5 pounds). I went last week but cut it short because of an engine problem. Put in at Garretts and go a couple of miles north .Get your Texas license if you dont have though.

Was he specific about what they were catching them with ? We caught some on chartreuse roadrunners and chartreuse crankbaits.Wondering if what hes using is more productive. We caught zilch on the main river when we went (too swift). The 3.5 pounder was caught by a friend of mine on a chartreuse roadrunner tipped with a small crawfish. Just not great numbers ......

bassadict69

No specifics...Just said the bite was on.

Figures, last weekend was spent shopping on Saturday & this weekend I leave on the cruse so I have to wait at least 19 days before I can go.   ~rant

In 19 days it should be just starting to get good!

BassAddict

Thanks.. If I get my boat back (hopefully tomorrow) Im going to give em a try Wednesday or Thursday -whatever day I can break free  . I will post a report good or bad.

Ron Fogelson

HA HA!  I get my leave put in and managed to take Friday off so rain or shine I'm going for a look see my self!   ;D

Ron Fogelson

I'm heading out tomarrow

Chris

fogy

Didnt get out there ...IMAGINE THAT :'( ..May go around mid morning tomorrow though. Got my work caught up pretty good today so its lookin good so far.Ive got a couple of spots that should be rockin right now .I will be in a Silver and green Pro Gator .

Chris

fogy

Just a heads up .................A buddy of mine from Logansport just called and he only caught two fish today (Im willing to bet that he was fishing only the sloughs)...The Sabine has dropped over a foot in just a day and a half .. Which means the fish probably have pulled out of the sloughs and has them scattered in the main river  . Lots of folks have been catching fish but not today from what he said . They were killing em all week in the sloughs and all of a sudden not today ? hmm  :-*.I am probably going to concentrate on the main river and maybe the mouths of slews and sandbars if I go. Just wanted to let you know that it could be a down day.

Ron Fogelson

THanks, Chriss I'm heading out the door now,  be in a red/white/black 929

I will just hop around until I can find them.   ;D  Still better then work!  lo

Chris

Good luck to you..... Im going to tighten some loose ends up this morning and then go out there.Hopefully I will see you loading up the boat when I get there.  ;)

Well it wasn't fast paced by any means but I had a blast.

Managed 21 keeps whites all going 2 to 2.5 pounds, hooked 5 yellows but only kept 3 & got 10 or 11 of Lips little kittycats.  ;D  Had a bunch of little cats but tossed them back, not much size to the ones I kept 1 to 1.5 pounds.

I got there about 10am & some people were where I wanted to be so I just milled around looking at some old spots but couldn't get bit, moved out to the main river and got a cat right away, and then a nice white.  Sat there for about 3 hours just moving down the river a bit at a time cause the HOT spot was near.  I watched 3 boats load up & take limits out of this hole one right after another.  One boat would limit & then the next moved in & did the same, by the time the 3rd boat moved they called me over & I tied up.  by then they were starting to thin out but everyone I got was very nice, not a runt in the lot.  I started out using crawfish but changed over to shiners trying to get the cats to leave me alone.  The shiners worked just as good.  I had a white take one of my rods off the side of my boat, & about 45min later I got another  bite & when I got the fish to the boat there was line tangled in the hook, pulled on it & up comes my lost rod, no kidding the fish that pulled it off was still on the line so I reeled it in!   :roll2:  Like i said I had a blast!   ~shhh

Ok water was @ 60 most of the day & at dark dropped to 58, then 56.  there is a tree in the left side of the river as you go up stream,  it has a cable about it to tie off of.  As you head up, you come to a straight away with a sand-bar on your left, then this tree & then straight ahead is a slough cause the river turns to the left.  You want to tie off to the tree and cast out to the river and back towards the sand-bar.  If you have a strong enough anchor just drop it half way between the tree & the sand bar & you will be in the money.

Good luck everyone & save some for me for when I get back!   ;D

Pulled the boat out,got all my gear ready and decided at the last minute I would just take this entire coming week off and fish instead of going yesterday .Some of the loose ends were still loose anyway so i tied them up and will be ready to go starting Sunday morning.. I will have an empty backseat most of the week so if anyone would like to join me,send me a PM.  ;)

fogy, good to hear you caught some .I was concerned that I would get down there and the fishing would be tough ...One of the reasons I decided to wait .Looks like the fishing is ok though.

Ron Fogelson

bass1cpr fishing is all ways a blast!   ~rain or ~sun better then work anyday!   ;D

Chriss, they are stacked up if you can find them, if your off by a few feet they won't bite, gotta find them, them hold on!  Good luck, man  I wish I could do that, but going on vication with Danielle atlest we will be in a boat!   :roll2:

Chris

Took my brother-in-law and my son to the Sabine today and the bite is on .Went to my #1 hole on the main river and the fish were there so we never had to move . In 5 hours we caught 113 total fish .20 or so of them were yellow bass and the rest were all good ,fat white bass (biggest was 2.9 lbs). We caught them on small crawfish in about 12-14 ft of water.. We were anchored close to the middle of the river just past a bend ,right as it drops off to deeper water .The water is perfect right now so get down there to your favorite spot and kill em .......Awesome day today ....

Mike Cork

Awesome!!! I love it when I can get into them. Just don't know where to fish down there, there are a lot of bends :roll2: Did you try any artificials ?

Great job and a great day!!!!!

Mike

We didnt try any artificials today . It was a blast watching my nine year old kick my butt and trash talk me to death. All in good fun . He was on the verge of tears tough when we decided it was time to go -thats a pretty cool thing when your kid wants to stay that bad.

bassadict69

How far is it to Logansport or whereever ya'll are launching? Need a Tx. license? Seems like I heard someone say that once.

Chris

Took my other brother in law today .Man there were some boats out . There were at least 40 trucks and trailers at Garretts Park alone .We only stayed three and a half hours. We limited out in about an hour and a half and  had to throw everything else back for the last couple of hours . We caught roughly 100 to 115 fish .The water temp was 60 degrees ,we were anchored in 13 feet of water and all fish were caught on crawfish...

BassAddict

I live in Shreveport and it usually takes me roughly 50 minutes to get there. You only need a Texas license if you go too far north .I dont know where the exact line is but where I fish has got to be right on it. I have a Texas license but everyone I take has just a Louisiana license and we have never had a problem. Dont think you have to go too far to catch them though . Everyone should be getting bit right now just about anywhere. Its gonna be an excellent white bass season. They will probably be plentiful til at least April 15th .

bassadict69

Can one of ya'll give me directions to the best launch to use?

Are you catching your own crawfish for bait or buying them somewhere? Any hazards to know about in the river or is it open clear water? Any artificials I should take along to try?

Anyone plan on going Saturday?

Sorry for all the questions! But I am taking my daughter and want to make sure we catch fish & don't have any problems.

Chris

Here you go James

Just in case you need directions to Logansport..................
To Logansport
Hwy 171 South,  turn right on Hwy 5 at the Kickapoo Store ,follow Hwy 5 through Keatchie and Longstreet until you get to Hwy 84 at Logansport,Turn right and proceed to either of these two launches. I like Garretts Park and its closer to the Honey Holes.

Garretts Park
North Logansport.
On US 84 [Main St.] 4 blocks east of the river bridge turn north on La. 764 ["Marshall St."], go .75 mile to "Garrett Park Rd.", turn left go .75 mile to launch.
Double wide paved launch, 75 vehicle paved parking, covered picnic shelters.

West Bank Launch
On US 84 on the west bank of the river, just across the river from Logansport, 50 vehicle paved parking area, no facilities, all services and supplies nearby

I have plenty of crawfish and if you want to meet up and get them that is no problem whatsoever. I will PM you with more specifics about meeting up and the exact spots on the river.
