Took some folks out today from Austin Texas. We started about 7 am fishing with no bites in my first spot in the mouth of a sough just north of Logansport, the second spot was dead also it was also the mouth of a slough. Went north into Texas a bit and found some fish on the graph in 10 ft of water in the main river at about 8:15 am and murdered em. We caught tons of yellows and a bunch of whites. We brought home 39 yellows and 75 whites and threw back a countless number fish.  Didnt see any fish being caught towards Logansport at all... Water was very stained and 62 degrees ...

Hit the Sabine today near Nibblets Bluff and didn't fair too well. The water is very low and the fish are suspended. I caught 4 bass, 3 of which we spots and all of them were dinks. The water on the Sabine is beautiful compared to the Calcasieu, it should be picking up here soon.

Launched out of Niblets Bluff today and started South. Sean and I fished the main river and up above Bikini Beach. We then went North of the Park and fished up there for the rest of the morning. To sum it up it was slow. We caught 5 fish and three of them were small.

Fished the LJBC July tournament on the Sabine. Several teams did well with a couple of teams reporting catches in the upper 30s and higher. Weights were not as good but that is par for the course on the Sabine. Chris and I caught around ten fish and weighed five of those in. We caught our fish on a Snagless Sally and the new Water Beatle by Culprit.  Others reported catching fish on wacky worms, crank baits, and spinner baits. The majority of the fish were caught South Of Niblets Bluff near I-10.

We fished the Lockjaw event Saturday as well.  I caught 12 bass before I caught my first keeper.  They were nailing watermelon red flukes, white spinnerbaits, and black wacky worms.  I caught 20 bass, 4 goggle eyes, and 1 choupique.  I had three weigh fish for a grand total of 2.3 lbs.  My partner caught the tournament lunker a 2lb monster.  When he first hooked it I told him it was a choupique because I mistakenly took his rounded belly as the top of it's body.  Dang, I'm glad I grabbed the net anyway.  Jimmy must have caught close to 20 fish as well.  The majority of his fish came from the wacky worms.  The big fish was caught on a Texas rigged junebug baby brush hawg.  We had a great time even though our bag wasn't that heavy.

Hawg, we caught a number of fish on wacky worm but I do not remember catching one of our dozen keepers on a wacky.  Saturday wacky was the formula for small fish. We caught our largest ~roflmao fish on spinner baits. Also caught a number of keepers on cranks.

Dang Ricky I knew we could holler loud, but not loud enough to reach Fausse Pointe.  Hope you and Merilla enjoyed it as much as me and the Lockjaw guys enjoyed the Sabine.

I think the real name of chopique are bowfin.  They are mean and nasty creatures.

Hi Mike,

you guys are going to love this lake,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, and with all our small boats, its going to be easy to get into some of that shallow water,,,,,,,,
but since the lake is only 2'-3' average already, we will be able to get into that 8"-10" water........ :roll2:

Fished the Sabine River saturday the 30th. Caught 5 early in the morning on  spinners on an incoming tide while working my way back into the marsh.  Then had trouble finding the right cut to get out of the marsh. Took me about 45 minutes to find my way out. Started fishing cuts south of I-10 with plastics and caught 9 there.
Started back to launch and decide to try B. Hawg's bayou.  I was amazed to find how much fishable water was back there. That bayou goes on forever with many large cuts off of it.  I fished the main bayou and caught 4 on a crank before the lip on my crank broke off. That made 18 bass for the day, I was aiming for twenty but I took the bait breaking as a sign and quit.  The largest bass was and even 2 lbs.  It was not nearly as hot as it has been, it was a very enjoyable day.

Wildcat, it looks like you have a new found honey hole. The fish on the Sabine are small but you can go over there and load the boat with em.

Lot more fun than going to the Calcasieu and catching 2 fish.  Sabine will be a reqular stop for me from now on.

Went Labor day to the Sabine River. About 8 AM I found a bayou that was filled with some funny looking bait fish.  They had big heads and bright red slash on their gill plates.  Whatever they were the fish liked them and were busting the hell out of them.  I put on a stick rapala of about the same length and started throwing.  I had a date with my granddaugthers so I had to quite at noon, hated to leave.  In four hours I boated 2 gar, 20+ lady fish, and 43 bass. The bass were the usual Sabine river fish, nothing to brag about in size, but it was a lot of fun.

Jared LeBlue

Now that's one of the best reports I've heard in a while. I can imagine it was hard to leave when you are catching like that. I've never seen a bait fish like you described, what the heck you think that is? If the lady fish are that far up you must had had some encounters with the crabs.  :shocking: I just read that last sentence and realized that could be interpreted the wrong way. :roll2:
