I have a 2006 pro team 170 Tracker and would like to upgrade the trolling motor to 24 volt. Where's a good place for the additional battery. Just brought the boat home today. Thanks

Not sure on your PT 170, but I have a 98 PT 185. All three of my batteries sit to the port side of the fuel tank.

Time for a tape measure. lo Measure the 1 tm battery you have then see if you can move it to the side, either way, and put a second one in, if you can then you're good to go. Personally if it were me I'd pull the front deck and see if I could mount them there, a bit of work but the boat is a kite in the wind and it would help keep the bow down a bit so it doesn't catch as wind.

I had a TX 17, the ~precursor to your model.  I had a 24v system on mine but I had a different fuel tank set-up (2x6.5gal portable tanks).  Being able to move the tanks around a bit allowed me to get the second batt in there but it was tight tight.

I pulled up some images on your layout and from what I could see it appears as if there's room on the port side as Cojab pointed out.  The issue may be batt size.  Space may force you into a smaller capacity batt (say, group 23 vc group 27) but you'd still realize the performance of a 24v system.

I removed the rear lid and it looks like I can fit 3 batteries, There is an on board charger also that the previous owner has hooked up to his cranking battery and his trolling battery. If I hook it up to the trolling batteries only it should work, correct? This is all new to me. Thanks

Yes if you only have a 2 bank charger and hook it to the 2 trolling batteries it will charge those two only. Or you could sell your 2 bank and put a 3 bank in its place , that way all 3 batteries get charged at the same time.

Won't the alternator charge the cranking battery? And those on board chargers I assume automatically go to trickle when the batteries are fully charged? Thanks

I have a tracker also and it doesn't charge it enough. You'll still need to put it on a charger when you get home

You have to keep in mind that your bilge, livewell pump, and fish finder is hooked up to it.

What Hughes said and you never want to leave a battery with only a partial charge sit too long, charge them all as soon as you get home.
