I dont know if anybody remembers but I built some really nice racks a couple years ago using raw handrail from home depot, fancy hooks from hobby lobby and a can of "hammered" rustoleom spray paint

That rack came out nice.  Since I'm renting this place, I'm trying to keep stuff off of the walls, so it has to be free standing.  I have a couple of build ideas, just have to get the other stuff done that is ahead of it.

I actually remember that Alan. If I recall correctly you had some peg board mounted with them that you used to hang baits from. Great looking setup.

No problem. It inspired me to do something similar in the walk-in closet I was keeping my gear in. Now that we are in a new apartment I have to figure out something for the smaller amount of space I have.

Soon I have to take a look at doing something like this again. I am considering doing something like nats but my only concern is the cat using my cork as a scratching post. She is slowly demolishing my house. I love that cat to death and feel bad getting her declawed but i may not have a choice. I bought a lazy boy couch about a year ago that has the stuffing coming out in multiple spots. I may have to build her a carpeted tower before i build a storage solution

 You can look at a thrift stores or the salvation army's all around and pick one up fairly cheap and refinish it like you want .

   Our cat is exactly the same. Totally destroyed my power recliner chair and most of the doorways in our old apartment. We even bought her a scratching post and she scratches everything but that damn post. She does like to lay her head on the base like a pillow when she takes a nap though.

I was thinking about that as well. I have an old wooden magazine rack from an RV I was thinking about mounting the the handles to sit in. It wouldn't cover the entire handle but most.

Take an inch and half (if I remember right) PVC pipe, and cut a slot in the side of it which will allow the rod to drop down inside the pipe deep enough to protect the cork all the way up the rod.  Will probably need to slot it on two sides to accommodate the trigger.

I did that when I made the rocket launcher for my truck.  The pipes were around 4 foot long and slotted, they protected a large part of the rod in transit.  I'm very sure it would work with the cat.
