After over two years of pure Hell, the boat is finally back on the water and performing as never before.  Today was really the first time to go fishing without having to worry about anything blowing up.  A combination of all the money and work over the past couple years appears to have paid off big time.

For the first time in years when I start the motor in the morning it just has a little bit of blue smoke not the beach landing smoke screen it used to produce.  The motor starts easily and idles smooth with out all those little misses and pops.  Although I am not a speed freak the power is there if I want to use it and that is a great feeling.

The new steering cables made such a world of difference and makes driving and turning the boat a very simple task without having to have arms like a power lifter.  The wife can handle the boat with ease because of this.

Installed new trolling batteries and a new crank battery.  Obviously the starting is great.  The performance of the new trolling batteries is awesome.  Last year on the only time out I had to run the trolling motor almost a full strength just to get the boat to move and it was easily defeated by the running tide.  Today I ran the motor on the lowest setting all morning and had all the power and torque that one could need.

While I understand that my boat and motor is 25 years old but with a new powerhead it can break at anytime but for now I will enjoy it's performance.

The last thing I had done was to adjust the motor height on the jackplate to achieve a more optimum prop to pad measurement.  My motor was about 7.5" below pad and now it is set at 3.5"  Idle speed movement is now smooth and not plowing.  The boat planes quickly and handles well in the turns.

So although it was not just one thing you can see it was a bunch of things that have been corrected and it is again a pleasure to take her out on the water.

Not a great feeling when you have doubt about getting back from wherever your fishing.  I hope the rebuild last you years of trouble free operations.  Good luck, Bud!

We were able to get out for two days last week.  A bit tied up this week and most likely won't get any fishing in but next week for sure.  It is so nice have everything work correctly.  Really makes you want to get back out on the water ASAP.   Gonna explore some "back creek" areas off the river that just might be the ticket to finding some hungry bass.
