Greetings fellow bassers, from a newbie on the block. I recently acquired several of the old BPS Extreme reels ( twist locking cam side plate, six pin anti-backlash, Pinnacle made I believe ) in very good condition. They seem to be solid, smooth reels with a reasonable drag setup. I'm sure some of you must have used them back in the day, so what is your experience with them? Are they keepers? How do they compare to the " under $100 " present day offerings? Thanks for your input.  RH

roothog,

Welcome to the UltimateBass Family we're glad you're here  ~c~

As far as the BPS Extreme Reels for the price IMO they're a good reel.  I have several of them and haven't had any issues with them.  I use them for flipping and pitching, crankbaiting, spinnerbaits etc.

All of that line is a good real. The early ones had some wear points that folks were dealing with but, these guys fished everyday and normally didn't do proper maintenance.

You should have no problems with them, just keep them clean and lubricated. The biggest problem with BPS reels is they only keep spare parts for two or three years. So if something breaks, it's very hard to find a new part. So take care of them  ~c~

Thanks for the welcome, guys. I actually got a chance to fish one of these reels today for a coupla hours and I've got to say...... I liked it!! :)   Gears and bearings were smooth, it cast very well, and although it isn't as '' low slung'' as the newer reels it seemed to fit my hand well.
I didn't catch a bass large enough to try out the drag ( doggone it! :(  ) , but maybe another day. I acquired five of these reels in very good condition for about $30 apiece...... I think I'm gonna keep them!   Mike, my cousin gave me a box of junked out BPS reels, so I believe I have some good spare parts ( bearings, worm gears, pawls, and maybe a set or two of good gears ) .
