Yep real good but I have no forward or reverse gears.

If that is all that you have to worry about I think that you are doing pretty good. I surely thought that the flywheel was going to be a show stopper.

Brother, great to hear that thing run!  The work you put into doing this for us and carrying us through the process is indescribable!  Thanks so much and GREAT JOB!  ~c~  ~c~

Incredible thread! Awesome to see/hear it running :toot:

I seen the shift lever go back and forth in the side of the block but Prop No Spin... Easy fix.

Also it was cold to watch the flywheel at idle, it's spinning was linking up with frames per second on the camera and it appeared to stop at times LOL

Really didn't notice anything really wrong except the water pressure was kinda low it looked like.  I noticed you kept sticking your hand under it.  When the RPMs got up the pressure seem to be stronger.

BTW you did a great job sharing the pictures and instructions on the rebuild.  I hope she runs strong for ya.
Thanks Don ! Yeah I was watching the water pressure real close, this is the high volume low pressure type so I'm guessing as long as it is peeing on the muffs its is ok but going to research some more and will know more also once it's on the lake.

yep rick, sometimes you have to reach in with a long pair of needle nose and tweak the shift shaft to get it to line up.  great job, and i knew it was something that you could do, and you will have a brand new engine, that in my mind will be better than it was to begin with.  we built a few thousand engines over the years in our machine shop, and never did have one come back.  you did a great job, and i can tell you that you would have been welcome to have worked for us. ~c~ ~c~

bo
Thanks a million for all your help Bo ! The shift issue in pretty sure is a minor one and may not even have to drop it all the way out to fix it since there is so much play in the connecting rod/lever at the top.

Great Job Rick!

On the Video quality question, did you know that each time you transfer a video it is processed, and usually made smaller to text? One reason that I always upload to YouTube via WiFi or HardWire, and never try to use texted gigglebyteage unless I have to.
Yeah buddy , in positive her phone cut it down big time and texted it to me.  She uploaded from her phone to her FB and was much better.  I will log in here and YouTube tonight from her phone and upload directly from it.

Rick, I just cannot state enough superlatives to describe your effort.  The quality of the posts that took a lot of work coupled with just wonderful step by step detail is absolutely one of the best things I have ever seen anywhere.  Your mechanical skills are just top notch and reflective of your character.

Your posts have received over 7000 views and indicate that you had a lot of brothers following you through this process.  We cannot thank you enough for sharing all of this with us.
Thank you Bud for all the words of encouragement ! Can't wait to get it on the water now.

Great job Rick you are indeed very gifted. I did notice one thing from the video your hair on top might have been caught in the flywheel

Lol that hair was gone long before the motor problem LMBO ! My dad is completely bald except for the sides so I'm sure it's coming for me too ;)

Yeah I was worried there at first when I didn't have any Spark ( Another video) and then it dawned on me I took everything off the boat before heading to Bunch Marine , including the Kill Switch Lanyard LOL
Gonna Check The timing, Fuel Pressure, Id also like to run a compression test to see where its at now and then the Engine cowling and cover and a Lake Run
Pheew Its been a long process and I thank you for all your encouragement and allowing me to share it here

Got it all cleaned up today and buttoned the motor up. Here are some various photos of the end process. We are headed to the lake for a run out on the lake in the morning.

The shift shaft had completely missed the rod and after the 3rd try we got it in place and shifting properly.  26 gallons of premixed gas in the port tank

Next project will be to bleed the steering hoses !
They have been seeping at the end seals for awhile

and I really need to replace them. So that will be next on the list lol.

No offense Rick but now that you're ready to hit the water, I think you may want to change your "T" shirt. lo ;D Hope it runs and runs and runs for a very long time!

I have to tell y'all it has absolutely never ran that good , idled that smooth or had that much punch.
When we first started it and idled out of the no wake zone I laid into it and it wouldn't get out of its own way ...... 8mph top speed and bow up . We kept playing with it stopping and taking off to try to get an idea what was wrong with it. Just about the time we had decided it was junk I put it in neutral and revved it up a couple times and it opened up. Dropped it in drive and it was game on !!! Not once did it act up after that ! Had 12-14 psi of steady water pressure and a steady stream shooting out. Didn't get over 4300rpms  and around 46 mph. Never trimmed up at all . Tried to keep it about 2 minutes at each rpm range and stopped a few times to see how it idled and took off.  Couldn't be happier at this point.  Had both GoPros going and motor hood mount went dead so switched to front camera. As soon as I can get to my desktop I'll convert the videos and get something uploaded. Thank you all so much for all the help and encouragement and just putting up with my grouchy self these last .... What 4 months now ? Phew!  Another thing we all noticed was its a lot Quieter than it had ever been before !! Crazy !
It's a done deal.
