I am getting ready to swap out my MG 56lb 12/24 volt with a 24 volt MK Powerdrive 80lb.
I'm trying to figure out the wiring. As I recall there is a 12 volt wire and a 24 volt wire going to the plug right now. It seems to me that I can just dead end the 12 volt wire and have only the 24 volt wire going to the plug. Does this sound right? That just seems like it would be too easy!

Is it a 3 or 4 prong plug? All you really need to do is wire the new TM plug to the two pins that will give you 24v, no real need to cut any wires.  ;)

Yep, makes perfect sense. The wiring will be dead ended at the plug.
The new TM is a used one a buddy gave me and has no plug on it. Wire that up to match the plug receiver on the boat and should be good.

Thanks for the reply.

You should have a 60 amp breaker tied into the wiring, if you get a surge with out it you can ruin the electronics in the motor. I have a PowerDrive on my boat, absolutely hate the foot control so I'm upgrading to a Terrova, I'll add I-Pilot later. I have the quick disconnect plate, it works great.

Thanks for the input Rodney. I have breakers on both the 12 and 24 volts sides in the wiring currently but I'm not sure what size they are. They are the stock ones on my PT 185. I will have to check but I thought they were 50 amps.

I couldn't pass up the deal on the Power Drive. A buddy of mine gave it to me when he replaced his. It just needed a new cable on it to make the auto pilot feature work right. He said he would be cruising along with it and it would just start going around in circles. Had it checked out and repaired. All told with the cable, a couple other small parts and labor it cost me $175.

I fish a 800 acre all electric lake. The best fishing is on the other side of the lake from the dock so its about a 15 minute cruise on my current MG and the whole time I have to sit at the front and hold the pedal down and steer.  I think the increase to 80lb thrust and the feature where you just point it where you want to go and hit the hold switch will be very beneficial to me. I can sit and tie on baits etc. instead of driving.

One quick question. There is a button on the head of the unit that says Auto pilot or something like that. What exactly does that do.

I also have the quick disconnect plate. It does seem handy.

Thanks Scott. I've tried that but did not find anything on the PowerDrive. Found plenty on the PD V2.
I even did a search on the serial number and it came back as nothing found.
Next step is calling.
