This year I have received multiple phone calls asking about Santee.  I guess the reduced fuel costs have folks more willing to venture to far away places for some early fishing.

I just want to impress on folks how dangerous Santee can be especially in the wind.  This is a shallow water system with lots of hazards just under the surface.  If the wind comes up the big lake can get real ugly real fast.  The wind will churn up waves to levels that will swamp your boat and just beat you and your equipment to pieces.

Don't be foolish here.  Stay in the channels when running and take care and watch for skinny water that will get you in trouble.  Be careful and wear you pfd at al times and be sure to remember those kill switches.  They just may save your life.

If this is your first visit to Santee you may want to hire a qualified guide.  They are well worth your money on this body of water.  Take it from me as someone who has experienced the good, bad and ugly at Santee.
