OK UltimateBass family, it's time for a Tips Contest! In the past, there was a contest twice a year and we'll try to get back on that schedule. The good news is, there will be TONS of great tips to choose from and maybe we can convince Mike Cork to provide a huge prize pack from our great sponsors for the winning tip!

It's time to nominate the best tips from January 2015 up to January 18th 2016 for our next Tips Contest. Another SUPER prize pack will be up for grabs for the winner of the best tip.

Choose your favorite tip or tips from right here in the "Tips Board" posted between January 14th 2015 up to the January 18th 2016 which means you still have about 10 days to post some of your tips in the tips board to qualify and then post a link to your thread/tip right here in this nominations thread, and I'll do the rest. There's no limit to how many tips you nominate, you can even nominate your own tip(s), but only the 10 or 15 most popular tips will go into the final poll.

This nominations thread will end on Monday February 8th and this thread will be locked.

Later that week I will then start a new thread with the voting poll/thread here in the tips forum with the 10 or 15 most nominated tips and the voting will begin. The voting will last 2 weeks and the winner of this Tips Contest will be announced.

We have tons and tons of new tips to choose from so get nominating, the prize for the winner will be Huge. ~c~

Ok,

Number (2)  ;D

Being I originally gave this in 2014 and it's A GREAT PRESENTATION 'tweak', I'm repeating it again.
OK.....I WANT TO WIN THE TIP CONTEST TOO!  lo

Well I have a technique that I've used for a while with GREAT SUCCESS!
Just a note, I learned it from a friend who SM guides in the rivers up here.
He does/teaches this presentation with EVERY SINGLE CLIENT.
Those who 'challenge' it's effectiveness, he lets them do things their way and when they don't catch anything he will cast EXACTLY where they just did...WHAM, brings in a smallie.

It works just as good with LMouths and in lakes/ponds/reservoirs.

GIVING A BASS THE 'FINGER'!

I started using it when fishing 'weightless' plastic stick baits but I now use it on any/most plastics I fish weightless,
Creature baits, lizards even Texas rigged beavers. (weightless).
Really great when using  flukes too even with a weighted hook or weightless.

I started this for fishing sticks over grass mats, mil-fold etc.
I would often follow a top water miss with throwing a worm follow up.
Discovered it worked as well or even better in open water.

Here's the trick/tip.

Now first this is a 'spinning reel' technique. (Up No. here we can do anything on spinning gear because we grew up with them)
I recommend starting with a stick bait but it works on any weightless plastic.

Rig it texas rigged, wieghtless.

Cast it out and let it sink to desired depth. (I usually let it sink to bottom and let it sit for a few seconds)
Or when over grass/vegetation, till it lands on top of it.

Then reel it back as slow as you can.
While reeling it back I take my index finger on the hand that I'm holding reel in and extend it out so on every turn of the spool it hits your extended finger once per turn.
You will feel the tip bouncing while you are reeling it in. (that's how you know your doing it right)
The action on the worm is flat out amazing.
It triggers a lot of reaction bites even from inactive bass.
I've followed up drop shotting when  I can't get ANY action by flipping this technique in the 'exact' place I've been drop shotting and get great reaction strikes.
I also will interchange this when fishing weightless Texas style with spinning gear.

Now you can just do a slow reel straight back to you but I generally will stop reeling periodically on the way back and let it slow float drop a couple of seconds and than continue retrieve.

When done over vegetation, you again will be amazed at the action on the worm, I will stop and let it sink into pockets.
Again, vicious strikes on the drop.
Often they will come through the moss/vegetation and hit it while your on top.

Now if you wish (I sometimes do) you can cast it out in open water and reel it back higher in the water column.
It ALSO works GREAT next to or in front of Vegetation/GRASS!!!

So next time your tossing that Senko on spinning gear and your retrieving it back to cast to another spot....give it the FINGER!
I've done it wacky fishing too.

SO KNOCK THE DUST OFF YOUR SPINNING GEAR (I know you ALL have at least one ;)) and show the BASS who's BOSS!  lo

aaaaaand,

PLEASE CAST ME A VOTE OR TWO!!!

Go fishing and remember....HAVE SOME FUN WHILE YOUR AT IT....PLEASE!  ;D

BUT,

Great posts Thorn!  ~c~

If you're using Tapatalk and viewning your post, if you tap the three vertical dots in the upper right corner, one of the options is copy URL. Just paste that in your nomination post in this thread. If it doesn't work, as long as the subject/title of your tip post is there, one of us will post if for you. -Jim
