Ice Conditions

It's nice out here today. Fourteen inches of ice and mid thirties with sun. Perfect conditions. Been a tough winter for ice fishing though.

Well, Ice is almost done here in the far NW metro. I even put away the ice gear last night. I was out Saturday and did catch some nice gills. Ice was down to 9in in spots. 9in of late ice isn't so great as I could see the water move in the holes just from walking.

Most lakes you need boards or hip boots to get to the ice at the landings and will only get worse with the warms temps this weekend. After wearing my life jacket out Sat and sneaking around the open water at the landing, I figured it might just be time for spring. Sure a short year for ice this year.

I'm with Craig now, bring on the open water!

Yelp it sounds like time to put away the ice gear beside if I had to cross open water to get on the ice not going to happen.

No sir, caught a denim pant leg that pulled like a fish for a bit but that's it

Still pretty cold, I think it needs another week or two

What, no pic of it.

Just looking at the forecast I don't see much for anything over 50's for awhile. Might be awhile for some warm water temps. Maybe the wind will help break up the ice around here. Some edges are open.

Apparently Lake Minnetonka is now Ice free, still haven't gotten my boat out of storage. Been sick with the crud the last few days and this cold weather and wind isn't helping any.
