Is it possible to order a stainless blow out ring based on a prop's model number and install it myself or do I need to send the prop to the prop shop to have it installed??

Powertech makes and sells an aluminum ring and yes you can put it on yourself , don't know about a stainless one  , what are you trying to put a ring on ?

And just remembered powertech does not make the aluminum one any more now they sell a 3d printed plastic ring..if you google search (omc weed ring)there is one that comes up that snaps into the lower unit housing that works well

I have the plastic OMC snap-in one, several in fact. The ETEC melts them over time.

Yep , really melts em down for sure !
Stop by the Garage and let me know if you have Maintenance issues that you need assistance with.

The mercury's and powertech are plastic now , not sure where you would get a metal one

Do you have vent holes in those props ?

Princeton_Man

No vent holes but with the Plastic ring that snaps into the LU housing, the 23 does very good. Estimated slip is 9% and I'm told that's good. Dang plastic just melts over time.

I've kind of worked a deal with a fellow UB member in which I got his Raker 24 that seems to perform as good as the Renegade for me but I need to find a decent Raker 22 to replace it with on his boat before that deal is solid. If I'm not able to do that, I'm going to take the Raker 24 back to him and put the Renegade back on but I'd like to find a blowout ring for it so I don't have to worry about the plastic melting down and creating a bigger problem.

sounds like a market opportunity?  Are there any machinists near you that could CAD the plastic one and form a stainless one for you?  Maybe you already explored this, but it is a thought...anyway.

Good thought, the two are different in design. The plastic ring has tabs on the back that lock into assembly points inside the LU housing. The metal rings slide over the back of the prop hub. I found a machine shop (Bob's) online who makes/sells them and sent them a request. I'll follow up here once I hear from them.
