How many of you use it? What # for what kind of weight that you are tossing? What kind of knot do you tie?
My wife says she is gonna leave me if I go fishing one more time........lord how I will miss that woman.

~roflmao. I was just wondering. Im sure 17 or 20 would do, I dont know what the rest of the US uses compared to us swamp donkeys.  ~roflmao

Largemouth. I have a few spinners wound with 12lb flouro that I use for smallmouth and some others like walleye and whitefish. It sinks real well and has good abrasion resistance compared to mono. I don't use flouro on any of my baitcasters for a number of reasons. First is diameter. Super lines offer the same strength at roughly half the diameter, super lines are also superior for strike detection since they offer no stretch. Further, flouro seems to always have tension in it. Memory. It's just tough for me to handle on my baitcasters especially when trying a soft pitch or a short flip. I prefer the limpness of braid. I do use larger diameter flouro leaders when fishing clear waters.

Lee there is very large pound tests in flouro for saltwater applications. When we get into the big pound tests up here especially trolling for salmon we use wire. I make flouro leaders for salmon and Muskie in 80 to 100 pound test and believe me, I use a vise and pliers to get them knots just right because a lot of pressure is required to get them just right and then I cover them with shrink tube for extra security. You can't use your teeth to tie those bad boys.

Hope this helps and looking forward to everyone's thoughts. This is a big topic. Cheers. J.

In the past I have used 17 and 20 lb Flouro for flipping/pitching but only if the cover wasn't real heavy. These days I just stick to braid though, even around docks and trees etc.

John, the only problem with using a thin diameter braid down here is that it is not very abrasion resistant. Thus the fluoro line for pitching to keep visual aspects down. I figure I will not be using it for punching mats, but rather in a more open(ish) water situation where I feel the fish might be a little more line shy. I dont want to tie a leader as I dont need another possible weak link. I can always make another setup out of my reels and rods laying around. lol.

I agree with the more open water presentation using flouro but here I use the spinning rod because in our waters you can catch a largemouth a smallmouth a walleye or a pike. You just never know what you are targeting. In the mat up here which is not as heavy as you have I use 50 lb braid on the baitcasters and I cut and re tie probably more than I should because I never want to lose one because the line broke. Bear in mind also that I fish a lot of tea so in the muck visual is not so much of an issue. Also, in that mat it is largemouth and pike only and they both are very aggressive when they hit. I've seen pike miss a frog and come two feet clean out of the water. Its all good fishing. Cheers. J.

Anybody use a tough Mono line, like Big Game?

I use 16# Toray flouro. It is a great line for flipping and pitching  even in heavy cover. I haven't had any problems with it yet and I fish Toledo Bend and Rayburn.

No flipping-pitching, Yes. I pitch 17lb abrazx in the juice on the regular. I've even pitched 10lb invizx in holes of thick milfoil and got good ones out. If you tie a palomar knot, wet it, and cinch it just right, it will hold. You'd be surprised what you can get away with. Gl

25# is my standard. I dont mess around at all. Trilene knot on jigs and others. Modified snell on straight shanks.

If you are a palomar guy, I would suggest a double or triple for flipping.

I have some 20# that I keep around if I am going to pitch into some major rocky areas, but for the most part no. If you hate memory of Fluoro in 12# flavor, 20# will make you want to chew on glass then cut your wrists with it lo

Matt, that is all we used when we swam on our dinosaurs fishing Florida waters, worked good back then.

I only use heavier Flouro for abrasion resistance leaders when using braids, other times I stick with mono, then again I don't buy the line shy Kool Aid.  20 lb and up are a dog to work with, worse than mono in my opinion.

Do they make fluro in 65# ??

As a matter of fact, they do, but you have to sell your boat to be able to afford that stuff.   ~roflmao
