Tough break

Well....that sucks. Haven't had the rod but 3 days. Strung with 12# YoZuri and mounted the Curado50 on it. Went out back just now to play around, and it snapped on the hookset. Only landed 3 little fish prior setting the hook on the 4th one. I have owned these Berkley Lightning Shock rods before, and I have never had this happen. No signs of abuse on the rod as I checked it thoroughly before I bought it. I am shocked, no pun intended.

That don't happen to often.

Must have had a flaw you couldn't see. Hope you can get your money back or a replacement rod.

Your right....that sucks.
I tell every single person (addict) I know to NEVER buy a rod off the rack from ANY store.
If you find one you like, test the feel in a store and then ask them to order you one.
Can't tell you how much ABUSE these rods get in a store!
Often you can't see the 'flaw' because a single fiber in the blank gets weakened and Usually it shows the day AFTER the warranty expires.

But you know the rod game better than I ever will so again.....sorry to hear of your sicken experience!

Take it back for a swap out AND email Berkley and let them know....you just maybe AMAZED on what these companies will do today to keep a customer happy and coming back to buy more rods.

Congratulations!! Welcome to the Broken Rod Society. Sorry it was so new a rod, but hey breaks happen. Trade it in and be done with it.

Back in the day I had several of the Berkley lightenings. They all went in the trash looking just like yours. Broke in the middle while making a cast. Everyone the same way, in the same place.

Well I decided to get another rod this afternoon. Wife was hungry, so we decided to have dinner at Islamorada Fish Co at Bass Pro. After dinner I went back to the truck to get the broken rod while she went shopping around. Going back and looking for an exchange rod, the other Lightning Shock rods were all bent guides and such. So I decided to have a look around. That was not a good idea since I had a few beers during dinner. I came home with this rod.

Damn that sucks! I've never used the Shock but I do have 3 regular lightnings . Great cheap rods. Maybe the cheap rods just got mad at you for abandoning them for the high end stuff lol.

I've never broken a rod on a hook set, closed them in truck or car doors, stepped on a couple, even bent a couple of eyes by stepping on them but never on a hook set. The other thing I've had happen is eyes coming lose and coming off the blank, but that's easily fixed when I get home. I think I need to put more omph into my hook sets, you know, really whale on them, make those 2 lb fish fly into the boat.

I'm so done with that place. I haven't eaten there but twice, but I went to bps to exchange a reel with my lady. Killed 2 birds there since we were hungry. Long story short, Im looking at her and see a bug crawling near her shoulder, Im trying to play cool. It went away and came back, its was a cockroach. Yeah... that's an instant turn off for sure. Fortunately for us, we didn't experience anything like that. I highly doubt we will be going back to eat there anyways.
