Do you? I do.

I put some on a reel not long ago, used it one or two trips. Decided I wanted it on another reel. So I pulled some of the old Floro line off, left enough on for backer, tied the braid to it, and stripped the braid off one reel right on to the other.

I'm going to do the same with my 65# I spooled up to go to Guntersville with. I don't need it down here but it's on my good combo that I use a lot for texas rigs. But at the price that stuff goes for, I'm going to spool it onto another reel that doesn't get used much. Just in case I need to flip a jig into some heavy cover. Go back to floro on my texas rig rod. Or a smaller braid, either way.... Don't need that 65# on their.

Obviously, you wouldn't want to do this with old line but, if its fresh, don't just dispose of it. Spool it on another reel.

I always recycle my braid lines - I have been using some of them for a while  - I just make sure that there is no nick or tears on it. If I see anything like that, I just cut the line and add new leader on.

it has saved me some bucks in the long run.

Great tip

Yep, just flip the line on the spool. Unused portion is now on the top.
My wife says she is gonna leave me if I go fishing one more time........lord how I will miss that woman.

Yes sir! I reuse and recycle my braid lots of different ways. Even when you decide to take it off any reels for good you can still use it for other things like an emergency guide wrap.  :-*

I use braids in cycles, kind of like seasons, so when it is mono season, I just hand wrap it onto a filler spool until it is braid season again.  With the line spooling station I have, I am able to rewrap the line off of the filler spools over and over again and still keep the reel spools wrapped tight.

Old line sees lots of different uses, one is to sew buttons on, one time and they never come off again.  ~bb

Ya I do it but what I really want to know is how you guys actually do it.

Do you just press the thumb bar down on the used reel side and leave it attached to said rod and then rig another rod with a reel and just reel till filled?
Do you open /turn off/loosen all the brakes tension so the used has no tension?
Do you get a good line lay on the new reel?
Does anyone do it with spinning gear?

Tell us your system because even though I do it....it's a real PIA to/for me!

When my dad and I were switch braids, I was getting his 50# and giving him my 10#, we hand wrapped the 50# on an empty soda bottle. Then we threaded my 10# through his guides and tied it to his reel, then spun it on. Then I just tied on the 50# and spooled it from  the soda can.

BBB, thanks.

I should of mentioned, I'm a one man show (comedy) so I'm curious how people do it when they are the only one available or don't have someone to assist.

I have tried taking braid off and spooling back on an empty spool, similar to the bottle trick but I feel that I was twisting the line tremendously. (propably just in my head) and I kayak or shorebust so I can't just let it out the back of a boat and let it untwist.

Again, I do it but it is just a PIA for me so I'm just curious how you anglers do it?
BBB, again thank you for a great idea!

Anal, don't worry about the twist, braid can take it.

Get yourself one of those Spooling Stations that Bass Pro and others sell, it allows you to put some good tension down on the line when respooling so it cuts down digging in big time.  Then save your old empty filler spools and hand wrap the line on it.

I have spooled from one reel to the other on both spinning and BC reels, I usually do the dangle method, let the spool with some drag on it dangle in the air as I spool it on the other reel.  Make sure you do it on carpet or something soft, just in cast the reel falls quickly.

Another trick, I saved the handle, with a couple of guides portion of an old broken rod, I use this for respooling spinning gear with any line but braid (I use the spooling station for all braids.).  It saves wear and tear on a "good" rod, and is shorter and more manageable in the house.

^^^ I've got two rod handles I saved as well. Perfect for spooling new reels.

I do the reel flip thing too when I'm spooling up a new line or looking to change up. I also keep a couple of spools of old braid laying around for household needs. I've repaired a couple of old wind chimes using the 50# stuff, tied shrubs and rose bushes, and stitched up a canvas tent bag with it. -Jim

To transfer old braid from your reel to an empty filler spool use 2 washers, a large bolt, a wing nut and an electric drill. Put a washer on one side of an empty filler spool, slide the bolt through, put the other washer on the other side and secure it in place with the wing nut. Then put the bolt in the electric drill and use that to Fill the empty filler spool.  :-*

To spool braid onto my reels I use a spooling station like Pferox mentioned.

BTW, I Loosen the drag and spool tension knob and put the reel in free spool.

Thanks EVERYONE!

Ya I got a Berkley Spooling Station.
Actually I've had one for a very long time, almost a MUST for spinning gear.
I couldn't remember the brand and there is nowhere on it that says....but the line remover that came with it says Berkley.

I like the drill deal and used it once but you know how when you take line off a fresh spool it goes side ways back and forth and when I used a drill it all went to one side.

Remember anglers....this is 'anal' your dealing with...I over think and analyze tieing my shoes. lo ::) ;D

Anal, when you use the drill, you have to mount the reel or keep it free enough to just sit there, then take a pencil and use it like a level wind when winding, it will then evenly cover the filler spool.  Kind of like reeling in a conventional reel.

I need a little instruction on the spooling station and spinning reels, with mono.  I haven't figured that one out, go figure.  Braid I just spool both types of reels the same way with lots of tension.

My wife found this purse at a garage sale that had a couple of bad seams, I resewed it with some brownish colored braid I had laying around for years.  It almost matched the thread on the purse.  My wife looked it up online and it was like a $900 piece.   :o  She used it for a year or so and some lady offered her $150 for it so she sold it.  ::)  Wasn't bad for a $3 investment and some time.

I guess you are supposed to turn the metal arm of the spooling station so it is paralell with the body of the spooling station rather than sitting across the top. I never figured out what those little rubber grommets were for either.
At any rate, I never got it to work right for me with spinning gear either so I just spool all spinning reels right on the rod. In fact, the spooling station has become nothing more than an expensive spool holder for me since I usually fill all my casting reels while they are on the rod too. I wish I had gotten as good a deal on the spooling station as your wife got on that purse.  ~shade lo

Yea, me too, I'm on my third spooling station, I wear out the little plastic arrowheads when running very tight tensions.  Now that I have a new Uppet Lab (the garage) I think I'm going to build a spooling station to my specs, amongst all the other projects now pending.  Home Depot and Lowes has become the new bait monkey spot.   ~rant

When I tried to use the station like it said for spinning gear it always came off of the filler spool in big loose coils.
