It's da fresh water drum.... This fish has broke a bunch of bass fisherman's hearts on tournament day. Set the hook into one of these and you think you have a giant :-* In south Louisiana they fish for them during the "run" not sure if that's the spawn? But the eat the heck out of them, however in South Louisiana there isn't anything that doesn't get eat :shocking:

I have some cousins in Beaumont tx. You never ask "what is it?"

Them fresh water drums get big too and are a lot of fun to catch on a UL. I've hooked some 30 to 40 LB ones while Crappie fishing on a 1/16 oz crappie jig. Fought them till they straightened out the hook.

Fishing Baldwin Lake, in southern Illinois, I'd catch one of these every other cast, on crankbaits bumping the bottom.
They are a great fight, though, so I wasn't mad.
Yes, that is a gator in my profile picture, but I was trying to catch a bass, so it counts!
One 3ft long, 10 pound "Largemouth" for me.

Good idea on the new link Lip.

This is a juvenile saltwater black drum, it is just short about 12, 13 inches.  14 inches is the minimum on the slot, max is 30 inches, and one can be over 52 inches, which is around the State record.

This is a mature or Bull Black Drum, about 36 inches give or take.

They don't have teeth, and as you can see the short drum look a lot like sheepshead.
