Im new here, and im sure this has already been discussed. But here goes. I have a 2003 Champion 193 with a 1999 200 Johnson GT, 6'' jackplate Shooter 27p 4 blade prop. I can spin the prop to 5600rpm, but its slow out of the hole, and if the livewell is partial full to full it wont come out of the hole at all. i dont want to loose a lot of speed,
but the speed doesnt do me any good if i cant get it out of the hole.

So my questions are,

Could sending the prop to be ''recupped or reworked'' make a difference?

Should I just try a prop with less pitch?

Any suggestions on what prop and pitch?

Any info and help would be greatly appreciated.

1st thought reading your post is the prop is way to big.

Did you just get the boat or has the hole shot gotten worse?

Havent had it too long. About 3 months. I had to put a new foot on it a couple weeks ago, it was the same with the old foot though.

My 250 hp would have the same issues you're having with a 27. I'd definitely down size and would try a 25 first. Just because you drop pitch doesn't mean you'll loose speed, and in your case you could gain it.

Without actually seeing the set up, I would assume that your prop shaft is pretty high as well. So dropping the motor, lowering pitch, could allow you to create more lift in the boat at WOT, which will give you more speed.

Do you know what your max RPMs are for that motor?

I agree, way to much prop.  For a 1999 model motor your WOT should be in the 5800 to 6000 range, I would spin it above  5800 no matter what.  I run a 23 on my 225 and it gets on plane well and runs about 69 MPH.  Gotta play with it, sucks but true  :'(

Thanks for all the input. I bought the boat with that prop, and my first thought was ''WAYYY too much pitch''. Im not new to boats but never had to deal with prop problems like this before. Ive owned 3 boats, the first "an 87 18' monarck fish and ski had motor electrical issues, and ran like crap. The 2nd was a 91 nitro dc2000 and was just a pile of crap. And now the 3rd, a 03 champion 193, that ive already had to spend $1500 for a foot and the prop issues. Im starting to think I just shouldnt own a boat... But I love fishing and my fishing partner "the wife" enjoys it too. So heres to throwing money in a hole in the water...

Anderson, SC!  Me and you,  we'ze neighbors, we is.

I have to agree with the consensus so far,  you have too much prop.  Sending it off to be worked could help,  but most likely it will make it worse.  My suggestion would be to find a good prop shop that will let you "check out" a prop and run it.  The guy there could start you out fairly close to begin with and then you experiment one prop at a time.  Record the results from each prop including holeshot time,  speed and RPM at WOT, etc.

Do you ever fish Hartwell or Keowee?  If you are interested in small tournaments on these two lakes and occasionally Russell,  let me know.

Thanks for all the info. I found that my power pack has lost 2 cylinders. Im sure this has a lot to do with why its so weak right now.

Brad, i do fish Hartwell some. Russell is probably my favorite lake to fish, Ive never fished Keowee though.

Ok, so here's the deal. I found out my timer base was bad, and i had no fire on 2 cylinders. Had it fixed and now the motor is running great. I can now spin the 27p shooter prop at 5000 rpm with a steady 58 mph with no walking at all, and hole shot isn't too bad. I'm not sure as to what the motor height is, checking that in the morning. Im thinking it should run a little faster than that, maybe around 63-65 mph. Is that about right or is that  just wishful thinking? Any input would helpful.
