Looking really hard at picking one of these up. Anybody have any experience with this reel? Looking to pair with a Dobyns DX743C for pitching 1/8-3/16oz soft plastics such as a baby brush hog or baby D Bomb. Wondering how well this reel pitches light weight stuff like this and if the reel is worth the price tag.

LgMouthGambler

Better off with an Alphas SV. Way better design for pitching baits, especially with the SV spool. Plus you can get the 7.ratio.
My wife says she is gonna leave me if I go fishing one more time........lord how I will miss that woman.

The Aldebaran is 7.4:1 ratio. Still I'd like more info on this SV. Where can I purchase one?

Thanks maybe I'll get one of those to try. Price is far more reasonable.

Yes, it definitely is. Nothing beats an SV model Daiwa. That spool is the cats meow.

I've got an HG and must say that I enjoy using it. I'm usually casting plastics around 3/16oz. I'm sure it would handle your requirement. I have never held the Alphas SV so I can't comment on which is best for your use. If you've ever used a Metanium then you will be pleased with the "feel" of the '15 Alde. It has that very tight, smooth mechanical feel.

Well I just pulled the Trigger on a gently used 2015 ShimanoAldebaran 50HG. $240 not a bad price, guess I'll also go ahead and order a Daiwa 15 Alphas SV also.

I'll give a good comparison of each.

For that price, you didn't do bad at all. Retail, the Alphas wins hands down though.

Ya I really didn't want to pay retail $420 for that 50HG. But it was highly recommended to me by a friend. He's a die hard Shimano guy. Me myself I'm a Daiwa guy. This will be my first Shimano in about 10 years.

Don't know how I managed to let the Alphas skip by me without hearing about it before now.

I'm just not a fan of the breaking systems on the new Shimano's or I'd have a few lo

The stock Alphas SV is a great little reel. I upgraded the heck out of mine though. Bearings in the worm drive and knobs are a must in my opinion.

I was looking into that. You wouldn't happen to have a part list would you? I'm also thinking about a 90mm handle and a set if Tatula knobs. Might make it more suitable for how I want to fish it.

rockchalk06

I bought my worm bearing and knob bearings from Tackle Trap. Not sure of their part numbers, but you can find them on their site pretty easy. As for the handle, I bought a used Pixy CF handle 80mm for mine. I wanted the short 80mm as the reel is pretty small. LMG has a 90mm RCS on his and really likes it. Tatula knobs will work too. I wanted a little flash on mine so I went with Red RCS Daiwa Knobs. Cork would look cool too.

Wow that sure is nice!!

rockchalk06

Thank you. Its amazing what a little tinkering can make it look like. Other than the bearing upgrades, its all cosmetic. But, I kinda felt either go big or go home. lo

Hoytman1018

I have a 90mm handle and knobs off of a new Zillion TWS. I might go that route on mine. But those red RCS knobs look sweet

LgMouthGambler

The new handles are really good. Especially when you put 2 bearings per knob.

Its an aftermarket one from JLS. My main spool was defective. The E-clip came loose off the shaft in the rotor. Broke in 3 places and buggered the heck out of the rotor. JLS replaced it with this one. Honesty, I like it better. When I got the reel, I couldn't get it to cast worth a dang and wasn't impressed. I think there was more wrong with the spool too. Now this sucker will bomb a 110 or Trick Darter a good 40 plus yards.

Which handle is that LMG? Looks awesome exactly what I'm wanting.

Cool. I just never seen that color before. I know they were selling the SV spool upgrades for the steez and the t3 in the orangey-gold color.
