I am trying to decide between a 1994 Ranger R72 with a 1994 evinrude 115 or an 2000 Xpress (not sure exact model) with a 2000 Mercury 125. The ranger is tournament ready and the Xpress needs a trolling motor and new carpet.Does anyone have and experience with these two boats and know which boat is better.I will be running in a fairy deep lake that is fairly rough at times.

Those are two very different boats and without talking about price and knowing what model the Xpress is no idea what your even looking at.

In general a fiberglass boat is going to give you a smoother drier ride, be a better fishing platform in stability with more storage for same size boats.  A tin boat can be faster both in hole shot and top end on smaller boats with same size HP, they don't cost as much, as more forgiving around rocks, concrete & rebar and can be towed to/from the water with a smaller vehicle or same size vehicle and better mpg.

You need to decide what kind of fishing and water you fish the most and what you want out of your boat v/s the price point you are looking to spend.  Also when buying used get the motor checked out before you buy no matter how pretty and clean it looks.  ;)

The model of the xpress is an x19.I will be fishing a 93,000 acre lake that is mostly deep and the water is fairly rough. My price point is in the $5,000 to $6,000 range.I have recently been running a 96 Four Winns horizon 190 dlx. I don't want to get an aluminum boat if it is goings to be a terible ride compared to a glass boat.

not sure, but you can check with Xpress, but that 'ride' you look for will be determined by the keel, lack there of, and whether or not they have blown in foam inside all of the hull (not sure of Xpress, the Ranger 'does')

the xpress may also 'kite' a bit on you in winds, more so than the ranger.

if you go with the xpress, get way more TM than they suggest a 100+ if you have room for the batteries...you'll never be sorry.  I'd say this about a glass boat too.
