I have been reading up on this line since ICAST and decided to take a gamble. Bought a spool of 15# to compare to Seaguar InvisX in 15#.

As anyone tried it yet? Its supposed to be slicker, increased abrasion resistance and increased longevity. Same price as InvisX but 25 yards more. Means I should have to back my Core with mono and still get two spoolings.

rockchalk06

Sounds alot like Seaguar Tatsu but without the 40 dollar price tag

Interested on what you find, I run a lot of invizx and abrazx.

Tackle Tour gave it a 7.8ish. Said the lab test didn't excite them on abrasion resistance but it was just a test spool. They scored it low as it didn't come in under 8#. I'm excited to try it.

I've heard a lot about Sunline Sniper but not the Assassin yet. Please let us know what you find.

Mike Cork

I use a lot of sniper, and the gave me a spool of assassin to try. Still sitting on my desk as my back has kept me down. But gonna give it a go tomorrow...

What pound?

I use Sniper 16# on my shaky head set up, and it will always be on there  ~c~  ~c~  Feels great and can handle the river crap you run into on the cuts  ;D

This will be my first time using Sunline fluoro. I'm pretty excited to give it a shot. I think you know what rod this will be used on ;)

I'm curious to see what the memory left on the Assassin line is like. If its like invisx I may switch over
I have lots of great personality traits. Or as my doctor calls them, symptoms.

One of the big reasons I want to try it. I hate memory and while InvisX is decent, its still not the best.

Mike Cork

I've found sniper to be the best in all categories for me and what I fish. Keep in mind there are no rocks in Louisiana and the few we have get a crank bait tossed at them. So I don't have good abrasion tests.

I forgot the 12# assassin on the desk, gonna have to wait a bit... ~b~

I just spooled up a Core with 15#. I soaked this in KVD line conditioner. This feels like a steel cord  :shocking: I have no doubt this will have some awesome abrasion resistance though.

I run either 14 or 16# Sunline Super Sniper FC on every spinning reel I own, all are 2508 size Daiwa reels and they handle that line easily. I don't like the 2500's as much as their spools have way too much line capacity for me. The Sniper to date is by far the best line I have found for my purposes. I fish the Calif. Delta waters almost exclusively and have caught a number of over 10 up to 15# largemouth in there, that's why I use line that heavy. Have tried braid a number of times and just can't get used to it. That Assasin intrigue's me and looking forward to hearing from guys that have tried it - compared to Sniper?

Mike Bush

Ive got some 25# on the way for flipping. Need to find an alternative to Shooter.

I tried some Tatsu in 20# for a few trips...was not impressed at all given the price tag and the hype.

One trick is to stretch out the line. I can run heavy flip line much longer if I stretch it. Quality line works with this method...not so much the cheap stuff.

loomisguy

I'm curious to see how people like.it....personally I like sniper, although assassin is cheaper,it's also thicker in diameter..

Mike Bush

I am looking for an alternative to Shooter specifically.

I love Sniper, just isn't tough enough for some of the flipping I do.

tander

Looking forward to trying it. I use Sniper and it is going to be hard to beat. I was using Trilene XT 14 lb test. 20 lb. Sniper is thinner than 14lb Trilene XT.

rockchalk06

I went ahead and spooled it up it up on the 31st. I have only made a few casts in the front yard due to work and the heat, but so far I don't see memory from sitting on the the reel without being used. Its been dosed with KVD line stuff too.

Hey Mike, with your back being all wonky, feel free to send anything you need tested up my way.  Since I was a meteorologist in the USAF, I am therefore a scientist, and will perform all tests very scientifically (wink wink).  I would write a hypothesis and a conclusion for each test ran...

Really, I would...one old warrior to another...

OK...got delayed on the Assasin coming in. Ill have it in a few days....be putting it to work right away. Ive got fish in deep brush located for past 2 weeks. Ill have a report this coming weekend. Hopefully with a 5-7lb fish on the end of it. I need to cull some 5lbers in my total

rockchalk06

Mike,

I am stoked to hear about your experience with it!

rockchalk06

Any word if they are going to offer this in the 660 yard spools?

Mike Bush

I haven't heard anything yet. I wouldn't be surprised if they did.

Shooter wasn't available in the big spools until they changed to the 3 line choices...that I knew of anyway.

Mike Bush

OK...first reports of two days of fishing.

With just two days on the water and fresh line, this will be slightly premature but will give a great baseline.

25# line, spooled on two setups. Dobyns DX 705C and DX 745C.

I caught probably 40 fish between the two setups using 1/2oz jig with trailer and 3/8 and 5/8 oz T rigs.

Line was very smooth for both days. Very impressive actually for being 25#...almost like 16lb Sniper.   Very easy to handle, minimal coiling. Line seemed very abrasion resistant, as I was in trees all day. No breakoffs due to nicks in the line (had several). I did not retie on purpose to see what would happen and to determine the ability to set the hook with less than perfect line....cause sometimes we get lazy.

I tied a modified snell on the T rigs and a Trilene on the jig. I did hang up a few times, and tried to break off...never happened. Lures came out without breaking, so I didnt get a good comparison vs. the Shooter that I usually use. It did hold well from the pulling I did do though. Wasnt full bore "Im snagged" scenarios though.

Overall, with only two days on the water with the line, I will say I am impressed so far. Given what line I flip with (Shooter), it is a tough task to compete with. Given the pricepoint, and first impressions...very much an option for me. I will continue to use the line and see what kind of longevity it has and how it resists coiling down the road. I do have a little trick to keep those heavy lines straightened out, lets just see how long it takes before I need to use it...and how long I can keep the line usable.

Ill report again after each week using it.  ~cf
