Here is an article I wrote, can I please get your thoughts on it?

Pond Fishing Tips for the Summertime

Pond fishing is one of the most fun types of fishing. Old or young it is something everyone can enjoy. Pond fishing is a great way to start fishing if you want to get into the sport. It is relatively cheap and most everyone knows of a pond or two you can use. Here are a few tips for pond fishing in the summer.

Change the time of day in which you go fishing:

The best time of day to go fishing in the heat of the summer would be at dark. The water cools down and the fish come out of the middle of the pond and from deeper down and in the shade where it may be hard to make a cash to catch them. Your second best option would be very early in the morning when the sun is not high and the fish are still not very deep down in the middle of the pond or in the shady spots created by trees on sides of the pond you may not be able to get to. Your third best option would be at dusk when it is starting to cool down. It may be hard to wake up early but I am sure it will pay off.

Use slower presentation baits:

Use a slower moving bait, soft plastics bouncing off the bottom the fish are going to want something they can get easily this time of year. They also usually prefer something more chunky. Go with natural colors. Colors that work good in the summer time would be greens, dark brown, and black. Try out a drop shot rig in deeper water or even finesse worms. There are many kinds of soft plastics out there so just find something you like and that preforms well.

Don't make those long casts, yet:

One great tip is to not make a very long cast when you first arrive. Start off by working with the water closest to you, if you make a long cast when you get there you may be missing out on the fish that are right in front of you and you may even spook them off. Make a few short casts in the shallower water before making those long casts and you might just score a nice fish! Also try and work the more shaded areas. Fish will try and get in the shade during the day to cool down. Just remember, work it slow and try and bounce it off the bottom.

Great tips. Also important to keep as far back as possible from the waters edge when you first arrive, that way anything close to the shore won't spook.

@will16 thanks for great tips. I'm new to bass and have mostly been fishing ponds. Your tip around early am or late is very valid. And I find the fish easily gets spooked. So going before anyone is there or later in the day I find I have more luck.

As for that little swim bait with spinner you have there, can you tell me what it is or where I can get similar? I would like to do more finesse style fishing but throwing these smaller lure on my spin bait.

My tip would be to use lighter line like 6lbs and ideally Fluro. This helps you cast further and make your line invisible to easily spooked pond fish.

It looks to me like a beetle spin and you can get them at just about any bait shop they have been around a long time. Good lure.

The blade says it is a H&H Cajun Spin.....but it also looks just like a Johnson Beetle Spin, they carry them at Walmart and most bait shops.
