Hello,
New here and really pretty new to bass fishing in general, and definitely new to fishing from a boat. Just bought a Tracker PT 185 for my son and I to fish from and was thinking about hitting up Aurora in a few weeks after I get the boat water ready.
Would love to hear tips and advice from anyone willing to share them about the boat and fishing Aurora. Not looking for any ones honey holes but a starting point would be very much appreciated. I am a C&R guy for bass but have to admit I love a few walleye and bluegill for the pan.
Thanks
Jeff

The smallmouth fishing in Aurora is awesome, fish the points on the back of the lake with suspending jerkbaits, when the wind blows out of the north and hits these points 4 & 5 lbers stack up on them this time of year, I don't live there anymore and sure miss it!! They say largemouth fishing is good there but I didn't have much luck, Quincy on the other hand is awesome for largemouth!

Little update for ya.  Aurora Water temp 50-51 Fish trying to move up but this weather is slowing things down.  Yes the Largies with the past 5 years of high water are growing and producing nicely.  Good Luck.

Thanks HogMaster.
I am going to try and get out there early next week. I will only have early mornings until about 11:00 to fish both Monday and Tuesday. I know any times a good time to be fishing but are mornings OK out there?

Well I made it out there thos morning. Finally some nice weather. It was calm and not alot of traffic on the lake. Fished the south side with tubes, Texas rigged worms and the Irvco's I got here on UB. Unfortunately I didnt put anything in the boat but had a great time.
This was the first trip out with my new to me Bass Tracker and really my first tome bass fishing from a boat and using a trolling motor. There was a definite learning curve to figure oit on fishing and controlling the boat.
I' looking forward to when I can go back.

Good to hear Hogmaster cause I fully plan on heading out there again.
I know some people are turned off to that lake because of the electric only regs but I really enjoyed it.
That water is crystal clear and kind of reminds me of the fishing in some of the So-Cal lakes I did as a kid.

I just got off the water.  Very tough with the high school winds and the water seems a little dirtier than normal.  Off topic, and what color plastics do you all like at Aurora?

cojab

Hey Camel, I just got off the water too. I only had a couple hours to fish but I agree, the wind made it very tough.
I was using a jig and pig. My buddy used a couple different soft plastics. Had a couple of light bites each but never hooked up. I was using kind of a root beer colored jig with crawdad trailer.
I've got two strikes on me now at Aurora. Next time I dont leave until I land one!

The water is exactly like SoCal water with the clarity.  I would think it would hold bigger bass too.  The trout stock has to fatten those things up.  I had a bite on a salt and pepper red flake reaper but missed it.  Just curious on the good color patterns.

Made it back out to Aurora today with the wife. Like I said before, I wasnt leaving the lake until I landed one. I told that to a worker on the dock and he kinda laughed and said "well they close the lake late." That  didn't leave me with a great feeling but we headed out any way.
Day started pretty slow on the south side of the lake with a couple of strikes but nothing hooked up. Worked our way around towards the west and it picked up. I landed one at about 10:30 and was glad that I wouldnt be spending the night on the boat!
Caught two more after that. All of them largemouth and all three between 14-15". The wife also hooked into a nice one. It jumped on her while bringing it in and threw the bait. It was cool to see the excitement on her face when she had it on and when it jumped. Pretty disappointing though when she realized it was gone. It was strange to see the two completely different emotions from her in the matter of about three seconds.

Threw the jig and pig combo again with a couple of missed strikes. Threw a couple of cranks with no strikes. All the fish were hooked on a weightless Irvco. Mine were Texas rigged and the wife was wacky rigged.
I tried to attach pics but the files are two big. I'll figure that out and post them up.

Sounds like a great day on the water.  My wife is entertaining when she hooks up on a good fish also.  I want to get a video of it, but it would be mostly bleeps.   ~roflmao

The best way to post pictures around here is to make up a photobucket or some like picture hosting account, and then insert the link into your posts, you can find more information in this long thread here: http://www.ultimatebass.com/bass-fishing-forum/index.php?topic=34488.0

Well I guess I do have it figured out. As promised here's the fish from Aurora. Its haying and cow working season now so it will be another couple of weeks before I can get back out there. I hate it when work gets in the way of a good time!

Made it back out to Aurora yesterday. Picked up three but not where I expected them to be. I figured they would be a little deeper from the warm weather we've had lately. The ones I caught were in about 5' of water. Water temp was 70. Everything was caught on a wacky rigged Senko.
