This is what normally happens.  LMG puts his foot down lol

Yeah but Lou can pick it back up again! LOL   ;)

Hey what ever it is it is. Lou asked for opinions and I gave mine.

Truth is all the BS that goes along with Bass Tournaments, guys fighting over everything and anything, is the reason I don't belong to a Bass Club or fish in Opens. Just don't need it. Up to now it's all been for good fun and hope it continues that way, but since FD offered to donate a Custom Rod for next years AOY winner just my opinion that everyone should be on the same level playing field.

Heck I make mistakes all the time and I know that judging exactly where a fish lays against something (rod or whatever) then try to measure it later I know I'd screw up, not intentional of course but we are all human. Mis-judge by even .25 on 3 or 4 fish out of 5 and that can/could make a big difference over a 12 month period. Both for the one catching the fish and the others.

I would hate to see someone lose out on a Custom Rod because they shorted themselves or to see someone lose by 1-2 inches over a year and not know if they really won.

That all I'm going to say on the topic. Again whatever it is it is. Dang it Lou don't ask anymore questions! LOL

I got one of those Lews Speed Spins a while back in a 40 size, it works great for me, very strong reel too.  Have brought in bull reds and drum with it regularly.

If I was going to use it for more bass fishing than salt I would have gone for the 3000, but I wanted to squeeze some 20lb on it.

If you want to get inexpensive, the Penn Pursuit II in 3000 is a good reel as is the Daiwa Sweepfire.  My sweepfire is a 3500 and it has good line capacity, can get away with putting 17 lb Siege on it.

If this whole custom rod deal creates a bunch of cry babies over inches, I won't allow it. This is for fun, and that's it. I have Mike's permission to run this this in that way, any other way and the plug will be pulled. So y'all better behave.

Since the " boss" has spoken, I will oblige. I will just be quiet, observe and  take down numbers.

If it's going to be a problem then we'll just take the rod offer off the table.

For the record I don't like the rod "measurement" rule either.

Also I would like to request a new fish booking thread for the new season and keep this thread for scoring only.

I can tell you it isnt an issue on my end. My opinion is unbias as I'm not in the running for the rod. I also don't think this is an issue. Just everyone stating their opinions and I think almost everyone mentioned they would be ok with whatever is decided.
Everyone can have an opinion and if the majority of peoples opinions line up then its just common sense at that point to go with it. I can't imagine anyone being so butt hurt if there is a minor rule change or no rule change. I also cant imagine anyo ne taking offense to whats been suggested or brought up.

In the end its not a big deal and isnt worth some catastrophic arguement. I'm sure we can all agree on that.

The Fishbooking thread is a continuous thing, for random BS. We have tried to keep the FBR thread to just scoring, but still ends up with a bit of BS due to posting info of catches, and then it continues onto other things, lol. Its no big deal though, we tried to discuss it, but the BS just randomly happens, so we just try our best. Plus, if I made a new Fishbooking, my Wife would be mad. It was her idea, and you dont want to mess with the "real boss", lol.

See... LMG for the win. Despite everyone else wanting something simple easy rules for everyone to follow.

I could careless about a rod win.  I have always said it's a dumb rule...

Simple easy rules are the best kind. It's easy.. catch and post within said month, take a picture with a measurement device,  5 best bass, keep track of your own numbers... simple is easy.

West6550

Fred I agree with you.. Lou stop asking questions lol you make LMG angry.

Wondering what spinning reel everyone is running?  It'll be for use in saltwater (light inshore) and heavyweight bass, mudfish and gar.  Looking at Shimano Stradic 300fj and the Abu Garcia Revo SX30

I use a  40 size president xt, great reel....but if I was buying one right now the new Daiwa procyon and ballistic would get a hard look.

There is no money involved here. If you need to you may use a rod, then take a picture with the rod and a ruler. Listen, half the time the fish don't stay still for the picture. Sometimes it looks like the fish measured 20 when it was really 19, or vise versa. This is just a fun honest game. Get the best picture you can. You know what it measured before you try to juggle a camera into the mix.

^^this right here....Just for fun....or is it  ???

I agree 30 would be better.....but I use a 35 for bass and it aint too bad....for salt I would want atleast a 35....

We had this discussion before, and that is why I had posted a separate thread for the rules. We made the rules easy enough, and fair enough for an emergency situation. A rod is considered a measuring device, as long as you take a comparison picture. God forbid you catch a fish and your "measuring device" takes a swim in the lake, you will thank me.  :)

Hmmmm. Sounds like someone has a case of "do it all my way or I'll take my ball and go home" syndrome.

Last time I was involved in a Club like that the guy ended up going to meetings all alone. After all the Guy that keeps track of everything every month and does all the work to keep everyone informed did bring up the suggestion and ask for opinions. I saw no crybabies offering theirs to that question at all.

But whatever I'm done with this. I'll post if I get any more fish this month, comments not so much.

West6550

Nope I carry a board and tape just in case.

I find it funny though the majority say it's not constant including people who have done it but you say no lol.

Don't matter to me I do things the I like them.  I will post 10 pictures of the same fish if I want. No rules about that.

LgMouthGambler

Its like you guys dont remember all the BS that went down with Chris. That was the reason that we had a thread for the "rules". Now what? I am supposed to change them because there is some kind of "prize" involved? Give me a break guys. I am no Hitler, and did what I can do to be "fair". Im sorry if you dont agree with all of it, but not everything can go to please everyone all the time. Sometimes you just have to put your foot down so things dont keep changing and confuse people. Lou has done a great job at keeping things fair, and has even given his opinion on measurements (even to give the angler the advantage). If anyone deserves a custom rod its him for putting up with all our crap. ~roflmao

I locked the thread to give everyone a breather and prevent this from escalating further.

This competition was created over 2 yrs ago with fun in mind. This will always be its premise for as long as this competition continues.  I simply posted a question to receive some feedback. How and why it spiraled to this, I will never know.

I am agreement with all of you in one way or another. Fred and Thomas I wholeheartedly agree. I will pose no more questions.  lo  Matt... you are absolutely right. This is just for fun. And as such with any fun game, simple rules need to be  established so that some sort of order will be in place when all the fun begins. My original question was posed just to see if a rule needed to be clarified. No more no less.

My reasoning behind the question was for the protection of the group. Whenever a "prize" has been offered competiton heats up. It's only natural. When everything is in order and the rules concise, the competiton period ends, a winner is declared, and there is harmony. That's the only thing I am trying to achieve.

I like the idea of a prize. It provides a different spin to the competition. The reason this was so attractive to me is because it runs for entire year. However if this brings disharmony then keep things they way they were.

Let's just wrap up the year, and cease this needless bickering. Opinions have been offered. I really appreciatd the feeback. Now let's move on with our group entact.  Next week is a new year, if you want to continue with us great. If you don't, we had a fun ride.

If the bickering continues from anyone from this point forward I will exercise my right as charter member and I will lock this up again.  PoPo ... lo

Lou you're obviously not in charge, don't post rule questions anymore. Or I'll use my charter member status and lock it! ( sarcasm )

LMG I in no way tried to butt hurt anybody.  I gave my opinion when it was asked for.  I'll continue to post and enjoy catching fish and documenting them how I personally like too within the guide lines.  Like you guys said if we decide not participate then our choice.
