Wind was howling today. Got a huge Mudfish on a swimbait. 2 dinks on a lizard. 2 dinks on speed worms. I didn't even bother to measure. They were all about 12".
My wife says she is gonna leave me if I go fishing one more time........lord how I will miss that woman.

Yea I once seen that bowfin anglers have a dedicated website and they say they are good table fare. Im with LMG though, no pike either.

Not only that, the bowfin is kinda special to me so they get catch and release treatment from me.

Capt. BassinLou

Yeah, mudfish are a very common occurrence here South FL. Especially the Everglades. Big mudfish, give you a momentary feeling of catching a lunker bass. That's until you feel the fish begin its death roll like a gator.  lo

Pferox

Man there were certain times of the year, all I caught were those suckers.  I thought they were fun to catch.

That is like those Hoplo fish. (Those armored fish you see dead after a cold snap)  It is considered a delicacy fish for some group of people, I just can't eat black fish meat.

LOL!! Yeah, we have tons and tons of those plecos. (Aka: armored catfish, suckermouth catfish) mudfish, gar, and loads of exotics. Pferox, you have come down and visit again, the Glades is full of various species of fish.

Pferox

When I was a kid in Chicago, I used to breed and raise Plecos for an aquarium store.  Those were some tough critters.

lo, I never knew those little fish tank suckers could grow so big in the wild. They get to be pretty big down here. They are all over the place. Canals, ponds, the glades, etc.

Pferox

I swear I NEVER flushed one down the toilet!!!!   ~sad

Yeah tamiami trail canal was loaded with them a couple of weeks go. They were all shallow. Saw at least 30 of them. Lou when you called them armored catfish the time we fished in the canal i thought you were talking about another fish. Ive always known them as suckerfish.
