Hey I am wanting to spool my spinning rod with some spiderwire stealth braid.  I have never used the spiderwire braid the only reason i am going to use it is because it is fairly cheap and i never use my spinning rod.  I am going with 30lb then a floro leader.  Braid gives you so much more sensitivity so if i do throw a shaky head or drop shot will be able to feel everything.

Braid on a spinning rod is a great combo. You may find yourself throwing it more often once you do it. I haven't used SW Stealth. My only suggestion would be going to a lower lb test of braided line if available. Maybe 20lb or 15 if available. I just prefer the smallest I can find to match up to a smaller flouro leader. I think I have 20 lb PP on mine and match it with 6 or 8 lb flouro. great combination and sensitivity is amazing. Good luck and let us know what you think.

Spiderwire Stealth is my braid of choice, spinning or casting. 30 lb has the same diameter as 8lb Trilene XL mono. You should be okay but personally I wouldn't go any heavier on a spinning rod, especially if you are going with a light flouro leader like you mentioned.

I use the 20# Stealth on both my spinning set ups with a 10# flouro leader.  It does like to fade but that's not an issue when using a leader.

I used stealth for awhile.. its OK... but i did have it break on me...twice.  >:(
I have never met a bass I didn't like.

With most braids, unless the line is taut, you will have little or no feel of your bait.  I have found that NanoFil and original fused Fireline will offer a little slack line feel.

I use Spiderwire Ultracast.
The Ultracast works as smooth as mono on my spinning gear.

My first spool of braid was #15 spiderwire stealth and i hated it. Even though i had no issues with wind knots or anything like that, the braid was fairly weak. When snagged it snapped very quickly. Sometimes i could even snap the line with my hands. Ill never buy sw again. Switched to sufix which was great but like you said sw is cheap. Now i am trying power pro which is also fairly cheap compared to sufix. So far no issues with the power pro.

I used Spiderwire when it first came out, don't think it was the Stealth formula, it worked great in the heavier lb strengths, but 20lb was a dog, might have been a bad spool, dunno, never tried it again.  I probably should, just to be fair about it.

I have had a few different brands snap with little pressure.  I think that is it rot from bad storage or something, not always the brand of line.

My best story for this is when I spooled a surf reel for my buddy with 2,000 yards of 40lb PP which he got on clearance (4, 500 yard spools).  He took it out once and came back complaining about it snapping a few times on the cast and then when on a fish.

I started to unspool it and pull, it snapped about every few hundred feet all the way down to the end of the reel, nowhere near where the joining knots were.

He took back the pieces and they gave him new, in 300 yard spools (more joining knots) it is still on his reel until today, probably 3 or 4 years now, and he never had a problem again.

Ah that reminded me, mine snapped multiple times upon casting. Lost several lures because of it. It was annoying. Maybe it was the spool but i dont want to risk it so i wont buy it. Someday i may try the regular spiderwire but not the stealth.

I can understand that, bad line can get expensive quick.   :o

That stuff frays way to easily for my liking.
My wife says she is gonna leave me if I go fishing one more time........lord how I will miss that woman.

I use a lot of Spiderwire Stealth. Never tried it on my spinning rigs although I've known of a lot folks who did. I've tried other braids and always come back to Spiderwire. -Jim

I think you can get a bad spool of any brand too. A buddy got new off the shelf Power Pro and that stuff would break just pulling it between your hands. Total junk. I don't think that all Power Pro is because of that one spool.

I have some Spiderwire Stealth on at least one of my outfits. I cant remember which one it is on, I can't tell the difference between it and the other brands I have on the other outfits.

I primarily use Power Pro braid, though I do have SpiderWire Stealth Fluorobraid on two of my rods because it sinks and XPS braid as backing on one of my reels.

The last spool I bought of Power Pro was junk.  I think it was really old.  It was hi-vis yellow 65lb and felt like that old yellow nylon rope after it had sat in the sun for a year or two.  Stiff, brittle feeling and shedding little flecks of yellow crap everywhere.  It didn't break on me but my confidence in that spool of line was shot after the first outing.  Stripped it off the reel as soon as I got home and replaced it with fluorobraid.

I use spiderwire never had a bit of problem out of it except one time I didn't store my rod correctly (left it in the back of my truck for a month continously thinking I would get to go after work) it dry rotted and would snap like y'all were saying. Spiderwire will continue to be my braid of choice

You know after reading and following this thread I've come to the conclusion that I must be the luckiest angler around.

I carry a minium of four rods at all times, all season long in my car.
Two braid (spiderwire invisi-braid ultracast, 30lb.), 2 copolymer (LFT Parallelium FluoroHybrid, 1 10lb., 1 14lb.).
2 BCs and two spinnig reels.
Depending on season, add 1 spinning with 4lb. Trilene XL 4lb.

Since choosing these lines I have never experience line rot on any reel ever.
I have no memory problems at all on any.
I get no braid dig-in challenges.
No break offs except due to angler error. (I don't always retie when I KNOW I should and fish multiple BOWs, many have heavy structure)

Maybe it's because I'm a habitual KVD line protecter, Real Magic user, which is also kept in car (trunk). I also will use straight silicone spray at times. (alot less spendy then prior two).
A rod never goes back in without first getting sprayed.
I have 12 plus rods that get rotated depending on where or what my anticipated fishing goal is.
Every year, every day.

To add, I keep and have dozens of spools in my basement, in a cooler stored for relining. Some for muliple years.
(I'm a believer of buying things on sale , all three lines are spendy at retail and  I fish almost daily), before work or after work or during work  lo). So I do reline fairly often when needed.

I have to agree, Anal.  All in all except for a couple of bad spools new, I have had pretty good luck too.

I only had two reels that had line go bad on them, one was after 5 or 6 years of pretty constant use, the braid under the mono top shot finally gave up.  And I have had Dacron give up after a year or two on a spool, but Dacron is a different animal, that stuff will rot quite readily if not allowed to dry out.

As a matter of fact, the reel that had braid go bad had a Dacron tracer in it. Hmmm.

I usually find that most of my line failures are because I missed a frayed or nicked spot from a previous trip while checking the line after that trip.

several of us around here are using spider wire glo-viz, and have had great results with it.  one of the reasons that we use the glo-viz is because it will illuminate in a black light for night fishing.

I have that on my LSCR flipping stick and frog rod. No problems whatsoever. It will go on my topwater rod also when the time to change that line rolls around.

When I quit fishing the only braid line I can remember is Spiderwire and Fireline. Now there are so many choices it is hard to decide which one to get. I want to put braid at least on my Carolina rig and maybe my worm rod. Seems like a lot of People are using Power Pro. You are going to hear bad stories about any brand so I guess just buy the brand you think will work and try it out.
