Hey Dobyns Guys!
Looking for a jerkbait/top water combo rod and want something under 7'...I will be mostly throwing #10 X Raps, Mc Spros, Rogues for jerks... smaller top waters such as Chug Bugs, Baby Torpedos, Pop Rs etc to shoreline targets on 10-14# line. Maybe even lighter shallow cranks...The Dobyns SSM 663 or Champ 682 would seem to work but I have never seen or fished one.

Any advice on this would be appreciated

I figure it was a type o when you said 782? Since you want a rod under 7 feet.

The SSM is going to be a little stiffer rod which would make the Champion a better choice for your lure selection. However, fishing shoreline targets, the SSM might be a little more accurate because the action of that champion series is going to load a lot during casts. This is not a major difference, and you can adjust.

I would take the champion series in this situation. You have a very diverse bait choice and the two power will be best for most of them.

Old thread..but Ill add .02.

As Mike said...look to the Champion line. My personal favorite rod is the 684cb for small cranks, poppers and jerkbaits...throwing 90 and 110 sizes. I even throw a 1/2 MB popper on it and it does a great job. I can get that thing to walk in place and hardly move. Very good choice for what you are looking to do.

With this new line and prices after my Lee rod is built I'll be ordering one.

Is the free fury with purchase of the other rod only a classic "in person" thing.

Thanks.
This is not a hobby for me, its a sick addiction. Now my son has the problem...isnt it great!!!

I would like to take this time to thank Bass for biteing my lures and bringing me joy.

I would think so. Gary does some crazy stuff at the Classic.

That Fury line is gonna do some damage at that pricepoint. Very slick rod for 109

Yea. Gonna be a toss up between dobyns and rapsody for me. I have two Rapsody and love them.
