Rick, my best advise is to not buy a cheap baitcaster. I know you are still on a learning curve with it, but when you get it down you wont be able to put it down. When I was 12 I started throwing one, and I spent the money for a brand new Curado200B. I used the hell out of that thing, and maintained it all the time when needed. That thing is still being used today, just not by me. However, I did manage to get one in mint condition to put back on the shelf for memories. Stick to something simple and proven. Dual brakes are nice, but can be a bit much to the beginner. The VBS system from Shimano is about as simple and reliable as you can get, and I just dont understand why they went away from it. Find a used E series and buy with confidence. Trust me, I wont steer you in the wrong direction.

~roflmao...... and so it begins.

LMG is giving you good info. Just ignore anything he owns if you plan on so affording to eat.. you know.. the basics lol

Dual braking if possible. Most have mag brakes now a days.  A good thing to do is watch a few videos online and but a decent weight on it.. go in the yard and practice.  Put a few plates around the yard and prwlanding softly on them.

Either Kissimmee,  Hatcheniha, or Lake Pierce tomorrow. I'm ready to spend a day on the water.

Pierce used to be a great lake this time of year, but then again that was quite a few years ago.

Went out to the park to practice with my baitcaster and caught this guy on the retrieval with a senko.
I started off with a weight and the senko eventually got down to just the senko. My first 15 or so casts were a mess. Till I was able to get most of my casts off without a problem.

Stupid senkos.

Well technically it wasn't a "Senko" It was a big yum dinger. "Senko's" cost more and fall apart to quickly.

Actually Lou I caught my first big fish here in FL on a real GYB senko. I picked a pack of pearl blue holo blk flake 4" up at gander on sale, cuz folks didn't like that color....(just like the mutilator color trick worm that got me another in the 6 pound range)......And rattle snakes are close to stick baits, you can throw them that way, I fish them more like a ribbontail worm, or on a shakey head. I just love to bust your chops.   8)

4: 13
5: 11.25
Total: 64.5

13.5 beaver bait

14.5 spinnerbait

1: 13.25
2: 13.25
3: 13.5
4: 13.75
5: 14.5
Total: 68.25

Not much but it was a hard day of fishing. Wind was steady 15mph with 20-30mph gust.  If I sat in the canal and let the wind push me I moved a steady 1.8-2.3 mph the entire time.

Both fish caught way back in cuts with clear water.  Caught a good size chain pickrel as well.
