LgMouthGambler

So its a baitcaster. Why is MCS saying once you go b/c you wont go back? You have all baitcasters...

Nice fish and good looking frog bfn18.  I just got a new Spro frog, I think it is spooky shad.  Been looking for a clear frog.  I have the "crystal" by Ish Phat Frogs but I prefer my bronzeeye spro.  I'm looking forward to giving the spooky frog a try. It's kind of clearish on the bottom.
I was only using booyah and LT and wanted to try something new. So far im 2-4 with it lol.

My mistake. He does own one, however it will not be up to par even to MCS... lol!! We are going to use it however to begin learning the ropes. From there he will venture on and begin the collection. Lol... funny thing is he doesn't know that yet.

I am on it MCS, operation b/c kicks off on Thurs.

Yeah Lou has been trying to help me out with my hooksetting issues. At one point I thought it was a specific hook but now I'm still having issues and losing fish with other hooks.

I am going to take my baitcaster out today to practice a bit, but Lou is going to give me lessons on Thursday. I've had the baitcaster for a while now, and I have used it but I get all kinds of birds nests once every 3 or 4 casts so I kinda gave up on it.
As I was telling Lou, my outfit is a Berkley lightning MH rod, and a BPS MegaCast. I think it is the cheapest B/C they sell, it comes in a plastic and it is in an isle and not behind the counter lol. It is also pretty heavy and just plain uncomfortable, I've been fishing spinning my entire life.

Lou suggested I get yozuri hybrid and I resisted, cause I have like 3 almost full spools. Mono 10lb, mono 12 lb, PLine Floroclear 15lbs.
Then I have 2 spools of 15lb braid just cause I started with spiderwire and it SUCKED! Then I got suffix.

But if I learn how to use a baitcaster there may be no resisting. I may have no choice but to switch.

Use the 12# mono to learn on.

Rick I have a berkley lightning 6' mh and it is pretty stout. 30 pound braid and a caster and your good to go. IMHO if you are looking to upgrade the caster look daiwa the new and old model excelers or a Tatula can be had for under a hundred...the older excelers are running 50 ish online and alum. & Mag force Z....good luck learning, I just learn myself a couple yrs back. Once you get thumbing down you'll be good. Your in good hands with Lou.

Cool, my rod is a 7"
I'll look into those when I am ready to upgrade. I defiantly want to get a reel that isn't so damn heavy and is easier to hold.

The weight is not the concern, its the balance of the reel and rod. A combo might be heavier, but when it balances just right, it can feel weightless.

The good news is, Rick is willing to give b/c's another shot. Let him get the mechanics down and understand how a b/c should properly be adjusted and used, then bombard him with suggestions. lo He doesn't know what he doesn't know yet.  ~shade

Rick, my best advise is to not buy a cheap baitcaster. I know you are still on a learning curve with it, but when you get it down you wont be able to put it down. When I was 12 I started throwing one, and I spent the money for a brand new Curado200B. I used the hell out of that thing, and maintained it all the time when needed. That thing is still being used today, just not by me. However, I did manage to get one in mint condition to put back on the shelf for memories. Stick to something simple and proven. Dual brakes are nice, but can be a bit much to the beginner. The VBS system from Shimano is about as simple and reliable as you can get, and I just dont understand why they went away from it. Find a used E series and buy with confidence. Trust me, I wont steer you in the wrong direction.
