Walt Disney World

I'm heading down to Walt Disney World at the end of January for a family vacation.  I know they have guides at the park, but that's way too $$$ for me and I'm only going to have an hour or so each day at random times. 

A couple of questions.

Anyone here ever fish the canals coming off of Bay Lake? 
Do the retention ponds hold fish as well?

I've never fished in FL so this is totally uncharted territory.  Appreciate any input, thanks!

Any body of water in C. FL is bound to hold fish. If you are staying in a park hotel, be careful where you tread.

Thanks LMG.  Gators or staff the main thing I should be worried about?  I've seen enough "When Animals Attack" episodes to the point of being paranoid when I'm in the woods.

The only animals to worry about are the ones in the fuzzy costumes. lol. Just like anytime you decide to fish, always keep your eyes and ears open.

You can got to fort wilderness and rent a pole. Port Orleans has cane poles available. You could at one time fish in the fort wilderness areas but Disney is pretty strict if you don't do through them in their designated area then they give you the boot. I have done the Disney guide. I had a good time caught  some decent fish, others haven't it is hit or miss. Some like and some not.

If it is chilly you won't see them much if at all. They will go into brumation at about 70 degrees.

Jan...They should be getting ready to get it on....Soft swimbaits....ez, nake swimmer etc.....I would do a horny toad type bait too or a (I know I know  ) uvibe speed worm. And senko. Those three things you should catch fish. BPS isn't but 10-15 minutes from DW and If you can swing by Bitters Bait and tackle if you have transportation.

Disney is pretty strict about fishing inside their properties. Besides renting a cane pole the only other way is on a guided trip unfortunately. I will agree it is pricey. I will say though, that fishing those lakes while your inside Disney was a pretty cool experience.

The poles you can rent at fort wilderness are spinning gear from what I saw visiting there.
