Sam Dam Bass Fishing Reports

Fished here yesterday........very very slow....fish had lock jaw!! Caught a picheral and a calico bass. Not good at all!!  :( Tried everything! Caught these on top water.

Calico Bass? whats another name for that? I think that is what we call a rock bass of maybe a goggle eye have you ever heard them called that?

Don't know if that is another name for them. You would think a small mouth bass would have that name!! ???

well, they have a small mouth but their shape is different. I'm going to see if i can look up some info......

When I was young(er) my dad called Crappie, Calico Bass. I grew up thinking that the Bassmaster magazine didn't know what they were talking about. but after close examination my dad was mistaken. I have heard of a few folks in our area call them that though.
Fish slow and stay focused, concentration is most important when the chips are down and the fish are still in the water

Calico bass is northern name for a Crappie.  Don't know why and it only seems like tis in the RI/ southern Mass area that it gets called this.  Aslo we call sunfish or bluegills kivers.  Why??? Must a northern thing.
