Caught three pike on new 8/9 weight fly rod today, the first pike of my life on the fly. None of them big but it was great fun. Bass might be taking a back seat this year -- at least outside of tournaments!

Sounds like fun! Have never caught a Pike on a fly or any other way! I've caught numerous Pickerel over the years on flies, and they're always fun, but I would bet their bigger cousins are a blast!  :)

every few years I 'treat' myself with a trip a couple hours north to chase pike.  All sizes are just great fun!  Have caught them between 20" and up to almost 4 feet (47" in PB)...  in that 26" - 40-something they're good for some line stripping runs...  and of course, they're incredibly beautiful fish...although there's not a speck of 'mercy' in their dark little 'water wolf' hearts.

pike rock!  very cool little beasties for sure.

Love fishing for them while stationed in Alaska ~bb  That was the closest thing to Bass Fishing there was.

They taste pretty good deep fried with hush puppies and coleslaw too  ;)

Its all we caught yesterday for some reason. Couldnt keep them off a swim jig.

I dig it man. I'm predominantly a bass fisher but lately all I seemed to catch was pike. I figured I'd embrace it and actually target them.

By the time my first tournament rolls around I may not even remember how to catch bass  :(
