In the 17-18 foot range with a 115-150, and in the 20K ballpark, what boat has the most bang for the buck. Is it the Z-6, the triton pro 17, the margay?

The margay is a great little boat. And you can't beat the family owned operated & oriented company. Can't beat the customer service either. Come read around the bass cat section & bass cat owners board & you'll be hooked.

And unless your set on new, you can step up to the Sabre in a few years old model for a good price. Around or less than $20k

For instance. http://bham.craigslist.org/boa/4267801023.html

That Sabre has a lot on it for $16k

my triton 17 explorer w/115 opti is good, but honestly it is kind of a dog out of the hole when the livewells are full of water.  Take that for what its worth.

edit: livewell full part

I've looked at and considered all of those. Right now I am considering instead going with one of the new Ranger Aluminum 18 fters. Both Triton and Ranger offer a new Aluminum that has the same hull frame and layout with different finishing. The X18 (Triton) and RT 188 (Ranger) both are offered with a 115, are as wide as a glass boat, and run approx 50 mph according to current owners. Both are laid out surprising well and offer more storage than and other 18 ft boat I looked at and will run you in the $20,000 range depending on what extra options you add.

Something to consider.

For that price range I'd highly recommend looking into a used Legend as well. The LE series is a very stable easy to drive boat. For an entry level boat you won't find a safer ride.

My Dad has a 17'10" triton aluminum boat and it works pretty well.  More storage than what you would think, runs about 40 with a 50 4 stroke.  It is not a bad option.
