I've just joined and am from Byron Bay on the East Coast of Australia. I have just purchased a 17pro which I absolutely am frothing over, its fantastic. A friend has had an 18 pro for 6 months and where the casting seats fit into the brass hole on the deck it is rusting around the outside of the brass and the rust stain is spreading onto the carpet. I know it sounds minimal but it looks pretty crappy. :(
Has anyone struck this? Is there any solution or just something you have to live with?
If there is a solution I wanted to prevent mine from doing the same.
cheers.

Is there a livewell or something under that seat?

Shouldn't corrode, but if it is, it will be a matter of keeping it clean and dry. Remove the seat pin regularly and clean it, possibly even put some clear lubrication on it.

Ta mate, yes it is the rear one near the live wells, and was rusting badly. Its not an actual part of the seat its  the brass piece that is fitted into the rear deck that the seat spike fits into. It must have a  metal sleeve which surrounds the brass which is rusting. Does this brass piece come out.

I doubt that the brass ring will come out, well I guess it could if you wanted to bad enough but it's not designed too. The problem is that the livewell is probably vented through that seat pin. Usually with the seat out you can see straight into the livewell through the pin.

You can plug the pin so that livewell water won't splash up on/in the pin from the livewell. However then it will hold water should it rain.

Not a good design but it's what most boat manufactures did for a while.

Only thing you can do is keep it clean and corrosion free.
