What are your favorite early springtime lures? I'd say mine are lipless crankbaits and chatterbaits/spinnerbaits.

Pat Curtis

I like lipless cranks as a search bait to cover a lot of water.  Once I get a couple I like to slow down and work a jig or slowly work a jerkbait.

But my early spring here in NE Indiana...where we still have ice on some of our lakes...I like to use blade baits like the Silver Buddy, slowly work Erie Darter Jr's, or small jigs.

In northern IL have lots of confidence in Spinnerbait, jig.
Going to try lipless rattle baits this spring for he first time.

Early spring means different things depending on what part of the country you're in.  Here, we can't even fish for bass until the end of April.  For cold water, I've had good success with jigs, jerkbaits, spinnerbaits and even senkos.  My best producer though has probably been a simple curly tail grub on a plain round head jig. The key to fishing anything in cold water though is finding the right cadence and speed that the fish will respond to.
Attitude predicts altitude.  How high will you fly?

Here early springtime means bedding bass!  Yesterday i caught one over 7 and a 6.9lber off beds with a camo colored baby brush hawg texas rigged with a pegged 1/8oz weight.  Also a watermelon red senko i texas rig with a #3 willow leak spinner in the bottom.  Man that bait will catch them any time of the year, but especially springtime

How do you rig a willow blade with a senko? Sounds like something I would like to try.

Something similar to this maybe.  Screw lock attached to the blade.

Jig in some form or another for me.

Depends on water temp. Right now I'm throwing weightless senkos wacky rigged and tubes with a 1/16 oz. tube jig head.(water temp is ranging from 48°-52° now) Once the water warms up past 55° and stays past that magic number, I go to lipless cranks and small spinnerbaits(1/8 - 1/4oz.)

Id have to go with a jig and craw trailer of some sort.

I have the best luck year after year on spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, squarebill cranks, and a zoom ol' monster with a 1/8 or 1/4 oz tungsten weight

Man youll love it. right up there with a jig probably the most versatile bait in my arsenal.  Serach bait, flipping bait, sight fishing bait, etc... ANYTHING YOU CAN THINK OF   ~shade

Old Fishermen never die, their rods just go limp.

Magnum Zoom Lizard worked on a C Rig for clay bottom, or points with open water, or scattered cover- weightless to 1/4 oz texas rigged for weeds (I throw the shorter c-rigged leader lizards in the thickest crud in Toledo bend, say a 18 to 24 inch leader.)  Bass like the weightless fall, but they want it to fall into the weed stalks)

Other than that, April is time to get out the Senkos and go Whacky on them.  Prespawn like now in FL and LA is ridiculous for those.  For Lizards and Senkos I go with watermelon chartreuse, watermelon red.
For Senkos, baby bass is hard to beat, or watermelon blue, watermelon candy.

Also, put on a Spro, Jackall or Koppers frog for pigs in the weeds.  Pop it like walking the dog, but make it spit after a few strides, let it sit. Pop Pop Pop-spit  pause, repeat.

Lastly, a fat jig pitched with a big craw dangling out there is a good choice.  I don't burn up the casting as much as Van Dam, and I usually let the spinnerbaits and crankbaits sit on the deck for the most part unless I can throw them around cypress trees.  Just my brand of fun, this time of year, I don't think ther is much that wouldn't get hammered in the south.  Night time bite is really going wild in  North Florida on Frogs, though. My stepson is catching 5 lbers every night lately on "woops"y Frogs.

Best producers?

A fluke on a 1/8 or 1/4 oz ball-head jig, or a tube.  Both work great for me in the Spring.
Some people say doing the same thing over and over again, all the while expecting a different result is the definition of insanity.  I just call it fishing.

Do you guys t rig a tube or use a tube hook protruding out of the top with the hook exposed.

bassmaster893

I cant bass fish until the end of April. so I just go bluegill fishing with crappie tubes and a slip bobber. catch lots of gills. but man do bass love them this time of year to! whoops. dang bass getting in my way  ~shhh

I fish with a exposed hook until the grass gets thick or I'm fishing tangled up wood, then I'll go with a texas rig.
