Any opinions on the best light-weight spinning reels for the money?  I don't pay much attention to reel weight when it comes to baitcasters, but weight makes a big difference in how well a spinning outfit balances in your hand.  I'm looking for reels in the 2000 to 4000 size class that can handle serious use and the occasional weekend tournament.  I've handled the Shimano Stradic CI4s and like them a lot but can't spend $200 for one reel as I need to equip several rods.  I was especialy impressed by the weight of the 4000 size CI4 at 9.3oz, but again, I just can't justify the cost.  I'm open to any name brand or store brand alternatives.  The only feature that I would like to avoid is a reel handle that loosens by reeling backwards against the anti-reverse but I could live with that if I had to.  Any suggestions are very much appreciated.

Pflueger has some good spinning reels I have a president and a supreme xt both are really smooth. The only thing is the lighter reels are magnesium so if you fish salt water and they get scratched the salt reacts with the bare metal

You might also consider the ardent evercast forge.  It's a real smooth reel with 11 bearings.  The ardent evercast is a 10 bearing reel and a little lighter in weight.  The forge has an aluminum frame the edgewater has a lightweight graphite frame.  Both of these are good reels well under 100 bucks and warrantied by Ardent.
Enjoying retirement in the great Pacific Northwest.  I've turned into a fair weather angler.  Why do it today when I can do it tomorrow?

I've got a few nice inexpensive reels, but the lightest one I have is the Lew's Speed Spin, it is a composite frame, and I use it exclusively for feel fishing.

It comes with a braid specific second spool, but I use the regular spool for the higher capacity of braid. They run around $50 or so.

I'm fishing salt with it, and had it for almost a year, it is holding up very well.

All decent suggestions, also the Bass Pro Shops Carbonlite reel.

Old Fishermen never die, their rods just go limp.
