Been fishing the 2006 TR186 with E-TEC 150 for a while but decided to trade it in, somebody will get a good boat.  Bought a new 18 Pro with the new Mercury 150 Four Stroke, taking the first ride in it on Friday, Weather isn't cooperating much.  Got it loaded up today, I really needed to reorganize all my gear any way.  Here's a few quick pictures of it.  I'll let you know how the 150 Four Stroke runs, it sounds great just haven't had it in the water yet.

Now that's a nice looking boat and motor chief  ~c~
Several folks over here have one of those 4 stroke motors and they sound great, very quiet  ;D

I'm sure you are going to love it, please share more photos with us once you get her on the water  ;PHO)

Thanks Guys,

I am having to wait, weather's been terrible, we had about 12" total over a two day period and now it's high winds and getting cold again.  I think I'll get her out Friday, I have her all loaded, put my camera on board, almost forgot my rod and reels, LOL.  Thanks for the nice comments.

You were right, that four stroke is sweet.  Quiet, more bottom end power than I had with my E-Tec 150, haven't had it at WOT because of break in but got her up to 55 and there was lots of room left.  My impression was "Smooth Power", hard to describe but I've been running two strokes for 4 decades and the transition of hot foot to response is smooooth and powerful, I love it.  Rest of the boat all checked out good, spent some time on the HDS and the bow meter and set them up like I wanted for Sonar, Structure Scan and GPS.  Checked out all the pumps, etc.  Made my livewell smell like fish, caught 3 like this one, released em all.

Cool.  I am considering the same set up.  What RPM and prop where you running when you hit 55?  Also, lets us know what you top out at when you reach WOT.

chief31794

The RPM's were right around 5000 - 5200 and the prop is the Trophy Plus, not sure what the pitch is, hadn't had a chance to look at it much.  It was a little choppy and I was running it for the first time, didn't pay as much attention.  I think I'm going out Wednesday, if so, it should be a little calmer and I should get some good poop to report.  Love this motor already though, it has a different feel to the power, accelerates really well.  This hull has a 3" narrower beam than the TR186 and is significantly lighter at dry weight of ~1202 lbs.

Chief,

I sent you a PM.   Could you please look at the bottom of your jackplate and see how much inner bracket is exposed (the part with two countersunk screw holes in it)?  I'd like to know where the factory set yours up at.  Mine has the inner and outer brackets flush on the bottom (cannot see the screw holes).  Thanks!

chief31794

Didn't see this till tonight, I'll look at it tomorrow and let you know.  I did measure my pad to centerline prop distance and it is right on 3-1/2".   I'll take a picture and send it on.

Lapoolboy,

Here are the pictures of my jack plate I mentioned in the PM. Hope these help.

That does help A LOT!!!  Thank you!!!

Could you measure and tell me exactly what that gap at the bottom is?  Looks to be around 1/2"?

It is exactly 1", however, I'm wondering why you want to know, this will change from boat to boat and from motor to motor. The measurement that affects performance is the distance from the center line of the prop to the pad, I would think a good starting measurement for your boat and motor would be about 3.75 - 4" while mine would be somewhere between 3.50 - 3.75 just estimating. Mine is 3.5 for start and then you adjust based on top speed and RPM measurements.

Just want a ballpark to start from.  Thanks again!!

Received an e-mail back from Triton today.  Gave him boat year, model, and motor info and he sent these instructions and pic:

"Mount engine in the third hole and raise the jackplate slide up two inches up from the fixed plate."

Motor is already in third (middle) hole, but dealer left jackplate as it came out of the box - they didn't raise it any.  Mine was flush on the bottom - or 2" too low according to Triton.

Hey Chief, have you had it up to WOT yet?
Yesterday, loaded with gear, full tank of gas, no water in livewell, me and my brother-in-law, i'm 230 and he's about a donut short of 250, it hit 59 on the GPS, motor still seems a little stiff and I think it will open up a little more, if not I'm happy with that, I normally drive between 50-55 any way.

Thanks,

That seems like a very good top speed for that motor with a boat full  ~c~

I agree, I'm happy with it.

Goin' out again tomorrow, but won't be running, going to Paradise PFA, they're catching lots of 10+ bass, and one guy got a 13+ the other day, I'll be slinging frogs and spinnerbaits most of the day and working from the trolling motor. Monday I'm going to Lake Seminole or Lake Blackshear, hadn't made my mind up yet, will get to run it some more, I only have about an hour on the motor, so still varying speed and keeping it off WOT nearly all the time.

Hey Poolboy whats the specs on your boat i just went and looked at my jackplate and its flush too.  The motor is in the 3rd hole from the bottom but the jackplate itself is flush.

Thanks for the help
