There was a lot of talk about sending in lures before entering a weight, if we are going to do that we need to get busy.

Stump I've missed the chatter on this, this year. Last year we just had everyone send the baits straight to the winner.

But to make sure all is fair in love and war we could do the mail in entry. :-*

Can some one point me in the direction of the thread or we can start the discussion here?

It was pretty interesting last year and I want to play again this year! Were there any issues with last years method?

Mike Cork

Not that I'm aware of  :-\ I would be willing to collect baits if everyone would feel more secure in it.

Would that costs you more in shipping costs? There were a lot last year not sure the number but i think 30-50 sending various stuff. I mean it might fit into a standard USPS flat rate box. The cut off for guesses would have to be 10 days or so because the classic, when weather/water temps i think will greatly affect the weights

Mike Cork

I think last year there were over thirty. I would have to get a large flat rate box to do it.

If we didn't have any complaints I think we can pull this off like we did last year. Mother always takes it very serious though, if someone were to default it wouldn't be pretty....

I don't think there was any problem last year the winner wrote that everyone was sending him some really great stuff. He was a collage team angler and was really thrilled to win. I believe his name was David. I put two bandit crankbaits in a small box wrapped with tape and sent it, he acknowledged receiving the package. He was very gracious with his thank you's seemed like it worked fine.

if you contact the past couple year's winners, I seem to recall that 'they got what was promised' and in many cases 'a little more'.

I want to play this year...my only fear is that I'd actually 'win'...then what?

That sounds right :-*

I think we'll do it like last year. It seemed to do well.

Here's last years contest link with rules all laid out by Jocko. Was a blast , you should get in on it. Only thing that would be better than playing is winning :)

I read last years and it looks pretty awsome. Im in for sure
We should wager whatever our favorite go to baits are.
The only thing more depressing than not catching fish is not being able to go

I played in the last one and although I didn't win it was a blast. I would definitely play in it again.

I can't find the old thread but along with mail in the other idea was gift cards. That sounded good to me, so regardless how we do it I think I will bet an Academy gift card, I'm thinking like $5 which is not much but if 20 other people do the same it could be a new reel or a lot of worms in your go to color.

As far as mail in for your vote, the gift card was the way to go, cost 45 cents to mail and 50 of them would ship to the winner with much cost at all.

I will play anyway it goes, had a blast last year.

The gift card idea is neat :-* And since Academy is online now anyone can use them. But I don't know if you can use multiple cards at one time when ordering online?

Jocko actually has run it the last two years. I'm going to get with him and see if he's interested in doing it again for us.

The idea was not mine for the gift card it was on page 9 of last years thread when Jocko was still trying to chase people down to send in their lures in April, but hey if I had won would not have cared if it took a year as long as there were lures in the mail box every time I went out. ;)

I will call Academy to see how multiple cards would work online, they have a great online help center, I have used it to buy up all the clearance items before and the girls have alerted me to the next weeks clearance before it was posted.

Hi Everyone and Merry Christmas!

I am sorry to be so late to jump in on this thread.  Thanks Mike for shooting me an email.  I was off the grid recently moving from NJ to Atlanta GA.  Just got the computer up and running!

I would be glad to do the contest for the 3rd year.  I can't take credit for the idea,  I stole it from a guy who did it on BFHP.  I won and I remember how great it was receiving lures over what seemed like a month or so.  Everyday it was like christmas and it was exciting seeing where all the packages came from and even some included notes and tips.  So considering this,  I think using the honor system and everyone just mailing their lure to the winner is best.  Getting them all at once might be expensive for Mike to ship and maybe a bit over whelming for the winner.  It's better to stretch it out and savor the winnings as they trickle in.

I will get started on things over at the contest page.  Start thinking of your guess and wager!   ~shade

jocko

Oh yeah,

Last year - we began the contest on Feb 3, and in 3 weeks, we had 62 entries!.  So I think I will get something posted up around the same time frame.  3 Weeks seems like ample time for everyone interested to get a guess in.

I will also see if I can get in touch with last years winner and go over my notes.  If there was anyone who did not pay up,  I will consider excluding them from entering this year.  There is also the notion that guys can create new user names for more than 1 entry.  We will make it a rule that you must have atleast a few posts to enter.  This should be a good fun game based on the principle of honesty and the players following thru.  Ultimate Bass is a stellar group of guys and I know everyone will play fair and have fun.

It's going to be an interesting and challenging Classic.  Not much historical data for this time of year.

I like the gift card idea.  I think that might be my wager too.

Thank You so much Jocko. You did a fantastic job with this the last two years and it's obvious you've got a lot of thought into how to pull it off so well. Again, thank you!

I'm with you that this one is going to be tricky. New water for a classic, help it's relatively new water for the elites. I'm not sure there has been an "elite" tournament on it. I know there have been BASS sanctioned events prior to the elites but since the elites? I'm not sure.

Good Luck everyone!!

Mike McClellan won the last one, everyone refers to the spot he pulled his fish from as the $100,000 hole. It is a spot not much larger than a pick up truck.

But Grand is no stranger to the elites, about half live within an hour or two but Mike will diffidently be my fav on this one. The new guys from the past two years may struggle but it is not a hard lake to catch fish just hard to boat on. ;)

I think Biffle won a open there last year.  The problem is the time of year.  With a little research, you might be able to pull up what the locals are pulling in this time of year.

It's gonna come down to ounces!

When did McClelland win? My dates are bad right now?

I know he's the man on the lake :toot: but that will hurt him more than help...
