Just wondering if this is over kill. 6 inch crank bait diving 25+ out of the box. Im a big believer in big cranks winning my last tournament on a 6XD. But MAN what a monster bait. Just looking for some feed back and has any one used one yet.

From what I understand they're not available to the general puplic yet. They did already win a Tx. though. Myself, I am waiting for them to hit the market. Already have monies set aside for a few. My theory, The longer my CB is in the strike zone the better chance I have at enticing a strike.

Yeah ive got a little money back just wondering what i should do wit it lol. I have a cranking rod but i was thinking of getting a bigger one and setting my self up a little better for the 6xd and the new 10xd when it comes out. I know some of the guys on here get to try these baits out a little sooner than most so i figured i would ask.

This past year I picked up a KVD Deep crankn rod. Threw 6xd's and Luck E Strike Freaks. Puchased both the $149.95 and the $95 rods. If you opt for te KVD Deep crank rod bypass the $95 rod. The $149.95 is well worth the $50 difference. It is lighter, stronger and the feel of a smooth running CB was much better. And I did not wear down during a day of crank'n.

Because of my geographic location fishing is done for the year. If you are able to get a few of the 10XD's and are able to use them before this coming spring, plese do not hesitate to post your thoughts about the bait. I, for one, would be extremely interested in reading them.

Throwing a 6XD for most of the day already puts a lot of wear and tear on the old shoulder and elbow.  I can't imagine how much more the 10XD would hurt at the end of the day.  Of course, if it puts fish in the boat I'm going to throw it.   :surrender:

There are some pros that have reviews on this bait. It is alot bigger at 6in but for the most part they cut out alot of the excess plastic and say it gives you more depth but is not much worse than the 6x. Im not aure how true that is but as soon as i get my hands on one rain snow or shine i will try it out and let you know if someone doesn't beat me to it lol

Might be the ticket when they are on gizzard shad. I have thrown the Jack it 800 A lot , it's a honest 24ft bait but it's only about 3.5 inches. I would throw that thing on a swimbait rod for sure.

This was posted on Mark Rose's facebook page by an admin.

Talked to Mark today who told me this:
Dives to 25ft on 15lb fluoro
Can't use on traditional crankin' rod - he uses a 7'6" HEAVY or bigger (big bait!)
15lb fluoro - Minimum
It's stayed undercover for so long because Strike King didn't want knock offs out there.
Available sometime after February.

Here is a youtube link to him talking about it as well.

Supposed to be in Wal-Mart in February!

wanted to bring this back from the dead for some opinions.  probably going to try this bait out once it's available, but really not sold on the weight.  tackle warehouse lists it at nearly 2 oz! most other comparable (albeit more shallow) baits like DT20, Hot Lips, or even the 6XD are like 3/4 oz.

what kind of rods would you guys throw this on?  I literally don't see a "crankbait" rod out there rated for 2 oz baits.  usually they are rated to 1 oz or a little more.  for the most part it's only the broomsticks for flipping that are rated to 2 oz.  I know the ratings are subjective, but just wondering.

right now I've been running the other cranks I mentioned in the 18-20 ft range using a shimano voltaeus 7'MH.  and I just grabbed a powell 703 CB 7'MH that I'm hoping to replace that with because it's much lighter.  just really wonder if these medium heavy power crankbaits can handle a 10XD, but only one way to find out.

PS: anybody notice that that Mark Rose posting for the 10XD talks about needing a really heavy rod yet in the pictures he has the bait hooked up to a MH Kistler Z-bone only rated for baits up to 3/4 oz?

I am hoping my current CB rod will handle this bait. I have been thinking of purchasing a Graphite Rod for crank'n anyhow. This bait may be the catalyst which propels me to make the jump.

Good Post BTW

I'd definitely be looking at more of a swimbait rod. However, many companies already have rods in place to through Mag Cranks or Mag Topwaters baits that are heavy

I guess that's my point Mike.  seems like this one is toe'ing the line to me.  you probably have a much better idea than me what's on the market, but just searching around I see few crankbait rods rated for a bait like this.  in fact, even though the ratings aren't standardized I barely can find a single one from popular companies that actually fits by the numbers.

dobyns champion cranking rods (whether glass or graphite) even at 7'6" or 8' are rated to 1 oz...Falcon Cara T7 heavies rate up to 1.25 oz...  Loomis GLX series has models that come close at 1+3/8..  Powell's max composite "deep cranking" rod is only rated to 3/4 oz.  they do have an endurance 726 CB heavy that lists 2 oz.  Quantum's KVD cranking rods only list up to 1 oz regardless of length or power etc. etc.

like you guys said, it does sound to me that this is almost a bait that would benefit from a swimbait rod or umbrella rig rod.  or a musky rod.

I just think it's interesting.  again, it's not like setups have to be perfect or you'll get skunked.  reminds me of the times I've walked past the saltwater section at stores and saw bigger baits that would dive deeper than their freshwater cousins and thought "hmmm...wonder if my current rods can hold that?"  maybe we should all start lifting some weights to get ready for spring haha...

Rangerz520

Well these things are monsters at 6 inches long and weigh in at almost 2 ounces. Also TW has them listed as $15, which seems pretty steep for a strike king bait.

Greetings everyone I see you are talking about the new S K 10XD's.....they are some huge baits...I have three of them...These baits are huge they weigh in at 1.92oz and are 6 inches long.....I have been throwing them on my dobyns 795 swimbait rod.....you can cast them a mile and they will reach 25 ft plus on 14 pound fluorocarbon really quick...several tourneys have been won with the 10XD....you would think that it would be hard to retrieve that big crank bait... it is not its just like retrieving a 6XD I was very shocked at how easy it was to cast and retrieve the 10XD'S.......several compaines are building a new rod to throw the big crank baits with......How soon I don't know....get your order in they aregoing to be hard to fine whene they are released to the public around the Bassmaster Classic........

HDcustombaits

A friend of mine snagged 3 of them for me yesterday and they look phenomenal but my God these are some giant cranks! Ready for that late May early June deep crank bite to turn on here at my home lake!

I can't wait to get my hands on a couple of these cranks and head to Ky Lake and crank som of those deep sand bars and humps later on this spring.

HDcustombaits

Threw one of these yesterday until it felt like my damn shoulder was going to give out!  Word of advice, change the hooks on these as soon as you get them.  I know some of you guys might do this already, but as I was in a hurry going on a short notice fishing trip I didn't have the opportunity to do so and it bit me in the butt.  The bait runs great, gets to depth very quickly and has great action.  I lost a largemouth that was an EASY 7 1/2 plus right as I started to pull her close to the boat and get a net under her.  I don't know how but the hooks just came out and she had both sets of trebles in her mouth.  How she got off is beyond me, but I lost another fish about 15 minutes later with almost the identical hook up only it was a 3 1/2 pound or so spotted bass.  I'm just glad I wasn't out there fishing for money or I would have been absolutely sick about losing 11 or so pounds on two fish.

Other than the hooks, I love these baits!  They look great and run great, but you have to have the hardware to throw them.  My friend tied one on his normal crankbait rod and only threw it twice before he decided he wasn't going to risk snapping that rod in half trying to throw the 10 XD.
