A friend sent this to me and I thought it was a good idea  :-*

Any time you call an 800 number (for a credit card, banking, Verizon, health and other insurance, computer help desk, etc) and you find that you're talking to a foreign customer service representative (perhaps in India ,  , etc), please consider doing the following:

After you connect and you realize that the customer service representative is not from the USA (you can always ask if you are not sure about the accent), please, very politely (this is not about trashing other cultures) say, "I'd like to speak to a customer service representative in the United States of America .."

The rep might suggest talking to his/her manager, but, again, politely say, "Thank you, but I'd like to speak to a customer service representative in the USA .."

YOU WILL BE IMMEDIATELY CONNECTED TO A REP IN THE USA .

That's the rule and the LAW.

It takes less than one minute to have your call re-directed to the USA .

Tonight when I got redirected to a USA rep, I asked again to make sure - and yes, she was from Fort Lauderdale .

Imagine what would happen if every US citizen insisted on talking to only US phone reps from this day on.

Imagine how that would ultimately impact the number of US jobs that would need to be created ASAP.

If I tell 10 people to consider this and you tell 10 people to Consider doing this - see what I mean...it becomes an exercise in viral marketing 101.

Remember - the goal here is to restore jobs back here at home - not to be abrupt or rude to a foreign phone rep. You may even get correct answers, good advice, and solutions to your problem - in real English.

If you agree, please tell 10 people you know, and ask them to tell 10 people they know....etc...etc

It's a great idea and can only help improve customer service but it's not the law.   Too bad,  that socialist communist fascist lad in office could have actually created a few jobs if he supported such a law.

thanks for the post, I didn't know you could do this. I think of the many times talking to a rep, trying to  understand what they were saying. thanks again!

I found out the hard way that just because you call a U.S. number doesn't guarantee that you will get a person who speaks English well. Let me tell you about an experience I had along these lines.

I actually received the call, not made it. A customer service rep. for the company that makes my son's cell phone called (yes, he was from India) to offer us an extended warranty on the phone (I only found this out later though) but his accent was so thick that I could not understand what he was trying to say. I asked him in a very polite manner if there was another representative I could speak with who spoke English a little clearer. Well this particular person took offense at that and began yelling at me over the phone. Let me tell you his English was pretty clear when it came to certain cuss words. He dropped a few F-bombs on me and called me a racist. When I told him that I was recording the call and intended to report it to the authorities he hung up. I got a call back about two minutes later from his supervisor who spoke English just fine. She apologized for his behaviour and explained to me why he was calling in the first place, and tried to get me to buy the extended warranty. I politely told her that that rude customer service rep. had cost her a sale because I had no intention whatsoever in doing any more business with their company. She was actually a pretty decent person and told me that if I decided to reconsider or if I needed to contact the company for any other reason that there was a U.S. number available but it was not an 800 number. I told her thank you and that I would take the number. It turned out to be a Seattle, WA number. When I called it to complain about the way I had been treated in the first place, the person who answered the phone had a thicker Indian accent than the person who called me in the first place!!!  >:D

I'll try that next time.  There's always some "dead time" in the call while they are looking stuff up so just out of curiosity I usually ask where they are located when I call them.  The most frequent location I get is the Philipines.

Thanks for the heads-up.

Yes, this is Peggy...

LOL!  I actually had to call AT&T and about fell over when I got an American.  The call was quick and efficient because I could understand everything.  I had one call where the person on the other end misunderstood me and signed me up for services I didn't want.  When I received my bill, I called to complain, got an American and was told the international employees have been doing it alot to make more money!  I think it was AT&T as well, and they ended up canceling the contract!

That's a great idea. I hate having to call customer service in the first place, then when they answer and you can't even understand a word they're saying it gets pretty frustrating. I'll ask for an AMERICAN for now on.
