working with my side imaging sonar, pulling together data, collecting...analyzing...and learning a whole lot about the lake...

found this spot just off the end of an extended mainlake point.  Think I'll call it 'rock city'...

Is that a custom map you made??  If so look pretty good!!

I see 4 fish in the rocks.  ~gf

could be bass, cats or walleyes...didn't have time to check them out...

and yes Coullion...it's a custom...  as I'm guessing you know... ;)

-Shawn-

Looking at the way they are relating to the rocks I can tell you they aren't cats.  I would bet on Bass.

-Shawn-

You will NEVER see cats relating to individual rocks EXCEPT during spawn.  They have NO problem sharing cover..  When you see one on each rock............  you looking at bass.

Very Cool. I just haven't had time to play with the mapping software. I want to but....

Great shot of the rock pile too ~c~

What was the depth?

the point rolled off from about 10 feet as I recall to 20 ft where it flattened out on lake bottom.

the rocks were scattered on the 20 foot flat.

this is also on the north end of the lake where prevailing south winds help keep any potential thermocline 'relatively weak' at best (it's a plains state so we get plenty of wind, something you texicans know a bit about as well)...  some indications that the thermocline was setting up at around 15 feet...

I'm guessing that the depths under a thermocline were still 'just fine' with regard to oxygen levels.

Coldfront, I noticed that was google earth. How did you do that?

Great looking map CF, I am really needing to start making some of my own.

you have the tools.   lo  but it can be detrimental to your fishing time.   ;)

That is my only issue, I'm so committed to fishing tournaments, it leaves me with little time for the mapping. I'll get there eventually though  :)

I'm a newbie with side imaging so correct me if I'm wrong. All 4 fish are on the left side correct? Lighter complexions than the rocks?

Wayne P.

I found the same senario a few days ago when looking for a pattern before I started fishing. Caught a bass on the first cast of the day and about 5 cast later I caught another one here:

try these shawn...one of an isolated main lake hump with brush on top...

and a couple other views of the 'rock city' area...thnking there might be a few more fish down there than 3-4...thoughts?

by the way, I just pulled these off of my Lowrance Sonar Log Viewer (free software from Navico that allows me to replay my saved 'plays') so I don't have to watch it on my actual sonar unit.

pressing 'pause' allows me to freeze the view...<alt> <prt screen> captures it...  save it to desktop photos...cropped it a bit in microsoft office picture manager...uploaded to photobucket...and linked...

easier looking at them on my 19" PC screen vs a 7 inch screen on the unit.

What is that mapping software?

Haven't read the thread in it's entirety so my apologies if this is redundant but the map looks LakeMaster mapping.

Wayne,  you have some of best looking Humminbird SI pics I've seen.  Kudos to your setup.
