1987 tournament TX17 front platform/rod locker ideas?

I am trying to plan out a rod locker for my 87 TX 17 and came acrossed some pictures of other boats where the front platform extends back to the console unlike mine. It would be a plus to extend it and have a better storage area as well as a rod locker on the left side. To me it seems like waisted space the way it is now? Would it seem more crowded if i closed it in? Any good ideas for the locker if i dont close it in?

It would only be more crowded if you used the boat as a passenger cruiser. My PT175 has the extended locker area but it's usually empty because I keep my 9 rods at the ready on deck. Whether you kep yours in the locker or on deck the extra area you are thinking about adding will be most welcome. If you will be entertaining 3 or 4 friends and bait n wait fishing then keeping it as-is would be best.

I did consider it but being able to lock the rods up would be a big plus as well as keeping them out if the sun/weather when on a longer camping/fishing trip.

On a side note whats the best wood to use to rebuild the deck and where to get it?

I have the very same boat  and similiar thoughts about rod/additional storage.  The complication with a full rod locker on the left side is that the foam floation is on the right and left sides of the front deck.  I suppose that you could remove the foam on the left and fill the center area of the front deck to compensate.  I need to replace some deck wood and carpet this winter.  When I tie into that I may have some aluminum fabbed up to create a locker on the left side extending back and open the rear face of the deck to insert the rod tips.
I think I'll leave the area in front of the console open for tackle bags and a small cooler.

I found a source for marine grade plywood at a small local lumberyard (it has to be ordered) at about $90.00 for a 4X8 sheet.  The big box stores (Lowes & Home Depot) aren't able to get it in.

Holy crap, $90! I think i will stick with my plan of dumping this boat in like april and finding a better glass boat. I have gotten everything working but i still need to find and fix a couple leaks and finish the wiring. I would rather fish then eork in the boat.
