I've been hawking for a HDS7 Gen1 deal and can't seem to find one.  That being said I am considering HDS7 Gen.  Guess it says folks are happy with their Gen1 HDS7's.   ;)

If I go with HDS7 Gen2 route will there be any networking challenges with my HDS8 Gen1 unit?  I understand the Gen1 graphs can't work with LSS-2 but that is not major issue to.  However, I am curious will HDS7 Gen2 work with LSS-1 unit?  Eventually I'll get a LSS-1 but not high on my priority list per my recreational use.

Tom, there are plenty of people using GEN 1 along with the LSS2 and GEN 2 with the LSS1.

Thanks for clearing that up.   That is great news.  So I can in the future use my Gen1 HDS8 with LSS-2 unit.  Cool beans.

I have a Gen1 HDS8, a Gen2 HDS5 and an LSS1 and after setting them up correctly they all work correctly with each other  ;)

My next job is to connect my new SonicHub into the system  ;D

I'm running a GEN1 HDS8 at the console, GEN1 HDS 7 at the bow, LSS1, LWX1 for Waether radar and Siruis Radio and a Sonis Hub.  ~shade

My plan was to install the SonicHub on Sunday, but I installed my new dash panels first and it took longer than I expected, so I didn't have enough time to install the SonicHub. As soon as I get it installed I'll post a bunch of photos here  ;D

Nice setup GRR884  ~c~

Question on the dock station .... how water proof is the unit?  I'm struggling to find a good mounting location for mine  :-\

Gary,

You are without a doubt the most meticulous fishing gadget guy I've seen.  I AM ENVIOUS!!!  That is one impressive setup.  Way, way cool.  Your HDS8 looks Bad to the Bone your your BassCat PII console.

Did Sherm do the Sonic Hub install?  Sonic Hub is way cool.

Yep, supposed to be 100% waterproof. I haven't tried the docking station though. I don't have any of the "I"  products. LOL

Yes, Sherm did the install. I've had no issues at all with the set up. He did a great job. Of course those speakers only come in white and that chased really bad with the boat. Some Krylon paint for plastic did a fine job.

Same here. I "had" a 160gb iPod but it crapped out on me  :'(
I'll be mainly using USB sticks.

The white speakers will match my white boat just nicely  :-*

Bigwrench,

I have the exact same console as GRR884 and yep,  HDS8 is replacing my HB898.  Can't wait to see all my Engine data gauge displays on the screen.  However,  the fork in the road is my Kenwood 700u radio.   ;)  Nice to have choices.  Got to say marine radios have really come along way in the last six years.  The SH price point is impressive to include speakers.  That's about $100 less then my Kenwood setup.  Got to say I am completely satisfied with my iPod/Radio player.

Tom, I would keep your existing Sony speakers and not use the spreakers that comes with the SH. Otherwise you will have to enlarge your holes. SH speakers are bigger.

Flyswatter

Gary,

Gotcha on that speaker idea.  Another question....  LWX-1 bringing in the weather radar...  Can you share the cost for the service?  Is it a monthly flat rate?  You can PM that info if you want.  Back to the Sonic Hub....  I am a major "I" man and you said iPods work with SH?  Got to check that out.  Oh,  I think Lowrance needs to send you a commission check.  Your setup is dynamo.    ~c~ ~c~ ~c~

I'm flipped out over how cool that dash looks and need to come up with a plan for mine ! To get the 5 to fit my dash I had to send my entire cockpit off to have a plate made which turned out great considering what I had , but it doesn't have any WOW factor ! The 7 wasnt even close . So now after seeing that one I need ideas LOL !

The speedo I don't really need cause I use GPS , I watch my tach faithfully so may need a smaller one ,  I think my engine is too old to do the digital sensor thing through the HDS. I'd like to add engine temp gauge so probably need to play around with size and gauge placement. Would really like a tilt/telescoping steering wheel.
There is a 07 and up Ranger Z series in my future (or maybe a BC ) but 2-3 years away so not sure what to do and am open to suggestions I eventually can see selling the 5 and 7 and getting 2 8's lol .

The only thing I'd suggest is having another plate made and remove the analog gauges.  Now that's if you can have a NMEA2k compatible motor networked to a potentially larger HDS7 (If it would fit sans the analog gauges).  IF so then your HDS could display engine data like speedo, trim, WPSI, fuel, and all other critical gauge displays.

What you have already done looks really good.   ~c~ ~c~ ~c~

I also want to add some tunes to the boat already have speakers installed so will need something that will work with iPhone 4s can't see a cd player since everything I listen to is digital now

Tom, Here is the pricing on the Sirius Marine Weather. I have the Inland package. I went with a 6 month package and think I got it a little bit cheaper. One thing for sure never let Sirius keep your credit card for autopay. They are very hard people to cancel with and like to keep billing. I select a term, pay for it and let it expire.
