I am pleased to present a pair of crank that I built.
They are both made of wood, hand-crafted and painted with airbrush.

This I have called PH 6.1 is 2-1/8 "and weighs 1/2oz.

The PH 5.2 (my avatar) is 2-1/2 and weighs 5/8oz.

For the lips and the ballast I used Lureparts components. For the armor I used stainless steel wire of 0.8 mm; all glued with epoxy.

Very nice. Wondering why you used a coffin bill?

Thanks guys.
I Use the coffin lip because I think in rock and wood cover create a deflecting action and lower risk of hanging up. On grass I use round profile.

Very nice work!  The paint job on the perch bait is stellar.   ~shade

These two cranks are intermediate between wide wobble and flatside style. Cut the shape from the blank of wood, for this type of crank, the shape takes about an hour or two. I use Dremel type tool. More if we add eyes or other details.
They are much faster to do flat-profile crank.
Another hour for drilling wood and glue the components.

The balsa wood is excellent for building, but too soft and light. Must be worked carefully to avoid breakage. But most important thing is to be waterproofed with special resins, before or after (or both) the coating.
I use a bit harder woods such obeche or ajous (trade names in Italy, I'm not sure of the translation), SN:(Triplochiton scleroxylon)
. These have three basic characteristics:
- Four times the density balsa =less ballast to balance. I believe works better in water.
- Greater hardness = better detail, and  is not required protective resin on the wood before painting.
- In case of chipping paint and infiltration of water the body of the bait will not inflate.
