Does anyone know anything about Ascend or Field & Stream kayaks?

They're on the cheaper end of the spectrum for kayaks and of course the reviews on the internet, which are just about useless these days, are all over the place.

I'm going to leave this up for a little while, just so we can see if anyone wants to post in here about the Kayak, even if you have already made your purchase.  Other people may be interested in the same model!  :-*

just out of curiousity since i will hopefully be purchasing a kayak in the not too distant future, what made you go with the field and stream vs the Ascend?

I have also been looking at the Field and Stream, Dick's has them on sell for $449 this week. I would like to get the Jackson Kayak Coosa, plan on checking them out on my next trip to Dallas.

Honestly the biggest reason was the stellar customer service that Dicks always provides but aside from that I keep reading stories over and over about the soft material the ascend is made of and the potential for dents and dings to the hull because of it.  I don't think its a bad kayak necessarily and it looks great in person but I felt more comfortable buying from Dicks and they honored a sale price that wasn't supposed to be released until the following day but had made it onto their website early.

$449 is pretty much the regular price for them.  They do go on sale fairly frequently (3 or 4 times a year) for $399.

A few threads down, in this section, I posted my thoughts on the Field & Stream Eagle Talon, labeled "Decent Kayak."
Yes, that is a gator in my profile picture, but I was trying to catch a bass, so it counts!
One 3ft long, 10 pound "Largemouth" for me.

I'd consider both a notch above entry level
i debated  those 2 and the perception sport castet for months prior to making my purchase  last Labor day
the final deciding factor was $$$
After owning plastic canoes for 2 decades I was aware of the flexability (read: dent factor/ oil canning ) of any plastic bopat regardless of the thickness.
being a small guy (150Lb soaking wet) weight capacity was not a factor and I've yet to experience wet butt while paddling.
all three don't exactly qualify as lightweight when compared to my 34 pound cedar strip canoe
60to 75 pound curb weight was a concern - could I load and unload by myself? but a slight modification to my roof rak which is a modified bed frame seems to have solvef that issue I just  mounted the wheels roller style straddling the keel
the one thing that turned me off on the ascend was the molded foot pegs I like that I can adjust the ones on the talon and the flat footwells  have worked well ( i have attempted standing but I'm waiting to try it in water that I'm familiar with.
this is not as in depth as I could make it but I'm sure you'll enjoy yours

I bought the Ascend FS10 last year. I have had no problems with this Kayak at all. The foot pegs are easily adjustable. Fairly lightweight. I am able to shoulder it out of the bed of my truck down to the shore. I havent noticed any dents to it. Small scratches here and there but nothing major.
