Hey guys, I have a 788ci HD. This is my first HD unit. I can tell you that you almost have to go to school to learn how to read these things! I was wandering if you guys could maybe help me out and determine what this is. It is about 30 yards off a rock bank.  I am thinking it is a underwater humps with baitfish maybe? Please mind that I am a rookie at these new units.

All the help you guys give me will be greatly APPRECIATED!

It's hard to tell what you have with those settings using HumViewer.
It's like you have the Sensitivity setting too high when using the unit.

The best interpretation images should be screen shots with the unit-they are picture files.

Like I said, I am a rookie with these.  How low should i turn my sensitivity down?  I do believe it is on a 5. My Switchfire mode is on Clear Mode.   The water is usually pretty muddy.  Is it picking up suspended particles in the water?

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

There is no way to tell what to suggest without an actual unit screen shot.
HumViewer has its own separate and independent rendition of the recorded data and in no way does it represent how the unit displays the data.

I get great results with the Default settings for 2D sonar. I don't ever adjust them since I don't fish waters that are more than 70' deep.

Your images look like Down Imaging from a 788ci HD DI not from an image from a 788ci HD.

DI and 2D sonar are completely different. There is no Switchfire for DI.

Do you know there are 4 different 788 units?

Yes, I have the 788CI HD unit. That is just how the settings were on Humviewer. I will try and get another one.

On my unit I have my 788ciHD

1.  Transducer set to 83/200
2.  Sensitivity to Factory defaults
3.  Color pallete to 1 or Amber.

Don't touch a thing after that.  Also, register you HB788 on HB website so you can download the latest updates.  Be sure to follow the install process.   With the latest update, (I think 6.25) there is a real cool open water structure feature called casting rings.  As you would imagine when you turn this feature on your 788 will display casting rings around your waypoint.  You can adjust the rings size in feet from the center of the waypoint.  I usually set it at 75 feet.  It's a great feature for open water fishing.    You can fish the marked waypoint for deep cranking,  football jig,   C-Rig and orient your boat to a 360° route around your targeted waypoint.

For drop shooting make sure you have switch fire turned on.    To learn more about your unit there are all types of Humminbird video instructions on You Tube.  Here is a video link that explains switch fire.

I haven't used HumViewer for a 2D only unit, BUT if you can select a Imaging view of a 2D only recording, then you are displaying data that cannot exist on your unit. You have to use the 2D view to be even close to what your unit displays.

If you use the correct settings for the technology you image would look like this:
This is the 200 kHz rendering.

With the Jagged Bottom, I would say that is Rock and bigger ones at that.  :-\

No, the jagged bottom in my image is a creek channel that I was following as it changed directions along the way. I don't know what the other posted's image is since he used an Imaging setting for his screen shot instead of a 2D sonar setting.
