The Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) Bass Tour consists of seven two-day tournaments held at various locations around the country. Each tournament consists of an Open/Team Competition for those disabled anglers who wish to fish from a boat and a Bank Competition for those who prefer to fish from shore.

Florida Gulf Coast PVA with North Tampa Bass Club, other Florida B.A.S.S. Federation Nation clubs and the Kissimmee Conventions & Visitor's Bureau will host the Citrus Slam Bass Tournament out of the Lakefront Park in downtown Kissimmee, Florida on Lake Toho.

Dates are April 14-15, 2012. Registration is open for able-bodied boaters. We currently need over 30 boats to fill the disabled anglers that have signed up. Cost is $50 which includes lunches, drinks and ice both days and an awards dinner Saturday night. Go to www.pva.org/sports to register.

Disabled anglers in the Open/Team Competition are paired with able-bodied boat partners for the two-day event. On day one, only the disabled anglers compete. The boat partners serve as coaches and help locate fish and choose baits. On day two, the paired anglers compete as a team for cash prizes. Although only the anglers with disabilities fish in the Open Competition, awards and prizes are given to both anglers and boat partners. Disabled anglers in the Bank Competition are paired with volunteers who assist them in fishing. Prizes are awarded based on the total weight of the five heaviest fish on each day's tournament.

The success of this event is dependent on community support. We are looking for volunteers to work the event, product contribution to participants and for raffle prizes, and sponsorship funding support.

For additional information or to offer your support to our paralyzed Veterans please contact Joan Winkler, Executive Director Florida Gulf Coast PVA, (8130264-1111) or Steve Jarrett, President North Tampa Bass Club, (813-391-4105)

Down to the wire but still need 5 more boaters. Sign up today at www.pva.org/sports so we don't leave a disabled vet on the ramp next Saturday!
